I got my 2004 back today after the recall and it is noticably smoother than it was before (it has 5000 miles).
The original tranny held low gears too long and gear shifts were pretty noticable, more so than my old 1994 ES300 back in its day. I even mentioned this to the dealer when i took it in for its 1000 mile service in March and I was told it was "normal".
Driving the car today after the tranny exchange the shifts are truly imperceptable and the sound/vibration from a standing start (including tip in) is especially smoother.
It feels like a different (better) car.
Hooray for the recall!

Glad to hear it! My LS is having the transmission & fuel pump replaced and I'll be picking it up tomorrow. I get the feeling Lexus doesn't want this to be a water-cooler topic, the way this recall has been handled...
As always, I'm pleased with the exceptional service, loaner(newRX330 w/nav/ml/18"tires), cleaning, and explanations w/updates of what is happening to the car.
From what I understand, 17,000 2004 LS430's are recalled which is costing Lexus $60,000,000...
I hope my car rides as well as yours after the replacement...congrats!

WOW...
I had not heard about this recall or ANY problem.
I was excited about the new 6 speed and the fact that the gearing allows the LS430 to break 6 seconds in the zero-to-sixty sprint.
From the above posts it appears that Lexus/Toyota is being proactive... if so... good.
The dealer originally telling Mandingo that this was "normal" was not an acceptable response.
