ok dont move this to the electronics forum so fast ok? a lot of ls owners of the 01-03 vintage are looking to get xm installed and have it be integrated. well I just came from xm411.com and did a lexus search hoping to find some info on the ls 430 install problems and ran across this website:

yeah who cares you might be thinking. me too until I read that the xm module that goes into the prius into screen IS REALLY THE 2004 LS 430 XM SATELLITE MODULE! it even has THE EXACT SAME DISPLAYS FOR XM AS IN THE LS 430! now the 64k question is, is there a reason why this module will not work in 01-03 ls 430s that have the nav and mark levinson stereo? if there is no reason for it NOT to work in our cars, then this is the deal you get from that website:

Ok, let's look at this from a technical perspective. The short answer is it simply won't work for 01-03 LS430 audio systems and here is why.
1. The wiring connectors and harnesses are different in the 04 than the 01-03 and the Lexus XM tuner requires you unplug the existing connectors to plug in the provided XM tuner harness.
2. Even if the Lexus/Toyota XM connectors where able to plug into the 01-03's system, the IEBUS protocol used for entertainment communications such as XM data (channel, song, artist info and control) are shared between the navigation computer (ECU), display and amplifier. The 01-03's entertainment units have no firmware to support the XM tuner.
Note: thanks to jstjohnz for identification of NEC-Standard IEBUS as entertainment bus communication protocol used.
