My comment was about "wanting" the new car. I don't lease, I buy with the expectation of keeping the car for 10+ years.

My only complaint about the 1993 GS300 was lack of power. The GS400 addressed that complaint rather nicely.

So to avoid wanting one, I just never drove one. "Out of sight, out of mind" thinking. Worked for me.

I never knew the ls400 depreciated that fast...

I spent the entire day browsing the Lexus.com gallery gawking at the LS 430 and ES 330, they're such beautifully designed vehicles.

can some body post more interior pictures of the LS430 (shots of the glove compartment, cd changer, back seats, close ups of the trunk interior, gear ****, etc)?

"Only" losing 40% in 3 years isn't bad at all. I looked at the Kelly Blue Book for a 2001 LS430 in "good" shape with 45000 miles (15/yr) and it's worth $32160 to trade in. Assuming the a new "base" LS430 can be had for about $55,000 or so (net paid), give or take, that's 58.5%. A 2002 with the same miles (both would be considered 3 years of driving but perhaps someone bot the 2001 at the end of the year versus a 2002 bot at the beginning of the year) is worth about $1345 more or $33505...again, approaching 60% of original purchase price after 3 yrs and 15K/yr driving.

Of course, less miles would make it worth more and "Excellent" condition would also make it worth more, and selling it yourself might bring even more. So it's possible to recapture maybe as much as 65% I am guessing. But for the average driver with an "good" but not babied car that gets "normally" tradedin, 60% is a great ballpark figure.

By the way, for what it's worth for those considering a 2004 NOW versus a 2005 SOON: As long as your REAL savings upfront is more than about $1350, the 2004 is the better deal for someone keeping a car 3 years. And if you keep it longer I guess it's still the better deal....all based on my analysis of the 2001 and 2002 cars with the same mileage.
