I'm interested in the answer you get. I have often thought about updating my 03 disc

I have the same question, see below. If someone knows the answers, that would be great!

Here is my question: I have an '01 LS430 with DVD version 2000 ver .1. I just aquired on ebay version 3.3 (part # 86271-33042 and 464210-0491). Will this work and give me updated maps? Updated interface? And the easy question, where the heck does the DVD go? in the dash, trunk?

Thank you for the help. If you could e-mail me at russ@russgelberg.com that would be great.

Usualy a Gen3 update CD will have two part-numbers on the package when new.

Up to the retailer to choose which one they setup in their system really.

One looks like 86807-12013 the other00230-DVD04-CY

the 86807 is for warranty purposes, the 00230 is the number that it gets ordered by for Resale.

basicaly 2001 Disks were DVD01-CY, 2003 DVD03-CY etc.....

DVD04-CY is 2004, and dataversion 4.1. This is the most up-to-date Gen3 disk right now

Well i bought a Map 3.1 version disc, i popped it in and it said disc read error check disc...
Try cleaning the disk & reinstalling it a couple times, the Nav ECU's can be finneky, and just open/close the unit can remedy disk read errors.

and the Navi-ECU is in the right rear of the trunk under the mats & a piece of trim.

hope these numbers werent too confusing and somehow help.....

Default How to ID a Gen 4 Nav DVD

If the DVD has 9 circles on it, it is a Gen 4 Navigation DVD. Almost all of the current DVDs (Version 3.X and 4.X) on EBay are for Gen 4 systems.

Default I was wrong about the 9 circle thing

I just received the latest DVD for my '01 LS430 & it has the 9 circles on it.

One interesting thing is there is a warning for people who have 2000 ver 1 data that you can't go back to the old DVD once you install the new disk.

The part # on the DVD is:
86271-33033
464210-0510
Data ver.04.1

Does your disk have the 2000 data warning message at the bottom of it?

Is the part number on the disk the same as mine?

If you want I can post a picture of my disk before I install it today.

So what year does a car need to be for the Gen4 to work? Late '03 and up right?

Default Dvd Gps

The generation 4 DVD works only with 2004-2005 models. The 4.1 DVD is full of errors and most will not work but the new 4.2 is the replacement. The generation 3.1-3.3 DVD''s are supposed to work on 2001-2003. I have purchased a 3.3 but have been able to get it to read without errors. The main screen comes up but the map will not load properly. I am going to try another. The unit is in the trunk under a small panel on the right side of the floor. Remove panel and two screws holding the Denso DVD unit. This will allow the unit to pop up high enough to slide the door to open and press on the arrow now visible to the left of the slide bar and the old DVD will eject. Power must be on to remove and replace the DVD. Good luck. Lexus wants $350.00 to do the update.

This might be a dumb question, but are the Toyota/Lex DVD's exactly the same? If I get an update DVD on ebay, and it says Lexus/Toyota, does it matter? I mean, do you still get the Lexus pop up welcome screen and all that?

Sorry for my ignorance! I really want to update my 04 to the latest and greatest because my house was new when I got the 04 and my street is not even on there!

The disk I described above is available if you think it will work fo you. It cost me $50.00 and does not work in my 01LS. I have tried to figure it out, but do not know what disk is correct for me??
