Looking at 2001 ls 430 w/ 78000 miles. Asking $25K. Looks like basic model and pretty good shape. Any advice on what Ishould look at or consider. Is this a good car and price? Little concerned about winter driving (Michigan) Thanks! Looks like an awesome forum

I too am in the search for a used ls430 in the MD/DC/VA area. If anyone know any dealer or private selling, please let me know ASAP.
Thanks.

I'd say other than the normal things to look for: evidence of wrecks, body or paint work, bald tires, odd motor noises, look under the spare to see what's there, make sure the steering wheel is centered and the car goes down the road straight, steering wheel shake (tire balance), blown shocks, pulsating brakes, clean motor, is the interior REALLY clean (this usually means that the maintence was done also), stone chips, hood chips, smoker, kids, dogs, reason for selling, clean brake fluid and other fluids, look at the antifreeze for signs of blown head gasget.
These are a few of the things I look for. One of the main things to look for on a car of this type is service history, get the VIN and go to a dealer, make friends w/ a service advisor and ask him to pull a service history and go through each service ITEM BY ITEM, I passed on a lemon this way. Your best bet is to take it to a mechanic and spend $40 bucks or so and get it looked at on a lift, they'll look at brake pads, exhaust etc...
Maybe an owner of a high mileage LS430 will step in a tell us if there are any trouble spots. Also, SEARCH is your friend, the same question has been asked many, many times. I think the general concencus is there is no particular trouble area.
www.autotrader.com , there are more Lexi there than you can shake a stick at, it's where I got mine from, Texas.
