I have a 2001 UL. When playing Jazz with heavy bass (in particular Diana Krall in Paris track 4), I occasionally hear rattle from the rear deck. I've removed the speaker grills but still was able to hear the annoyance. I raise my bass a little when listening to Jazz. Visually inspecting the sub, it looks just fine. Anyone else have the same experience?

Oh, BTW, I found out that there's actully no speakers but just the subwoofer on the rear deck! The 2 speaker grills on the side are simply covers for the woofer air ports!

I just bought a 2002 LS 430 with the Mark Levinson a week or so ago and I have noticed the same thing, whether it be rock or hip hop anything with some bass the speaker rattles pretty bad. I though it might be blown and was goign to check it out this weekend. I would be interested to know if anyone has heard this as well.

My '01 Ultra has the exact same problem. I've taken the cover off the grills and check for any loose parts. I think some rubber between the grill and the deck would solve this problem. I'm not too impressed with this ML sound system. For being the "best in the world", I'm waiting for the day!

I'd like to try an experiment with a new LS430 and see if the same rattles take place with my own CD in their car.

I had the same problem on my UL....
Makes me don't want to turn the volume up so much when playing heavy tune music...

I had the same problem with rattling speakers when I used heavy bass. The dealer installed something they called speaker insulation kits and the rattling is now gone.

The rattling was coming from the rear speaker on the driver's side of the rear package tray. However, we had previously heard rattling coming from the rear speakers in the passenger side rear door too. The work was done under warranty.

What is this speaker insulation kit? Where can this be purchased? Im experiencing the same issue on the passenger side speaker.

Every ML rear sub starts to rattle, the edge of the cone wears out and rips. Do a search on here and you'll find tons of discussion about it.

I was referring to the passenger side speaker, not the sub. Unless the kit can fix this issue. Thanks.
