if people can put dubs on and make the car look like some immature fantasy pimp machine then why not put tips on. looks are subjective no doubt but the chrome tips are the final touch to this car I believe.

Default Just my mind wandering

This is what I thought about when rominl reminded us that the 2001-2003 LS430 has pipes that point downward. I'm thinking that tips on this downward pointed exhaust pipe would look silly. I asked to be proved wrong earlier... but no one has posted a photo.

See what I'm thinking?

just speculation but I believe that they will just point downward and be exposed only to the extent you allow. as an aside when my pipes were measured for diameter the SA told me the lexus muffler will never rust out since it is stainless steel, true or not?

After reading this thread, I did a little snooping around my car.
and have some interesting discovery, this might be my new mod.

there is a cut out on an 03, not as prominent as 04+, but still visible

how about a plastic exhaust tip, light weight and gives your ride a custom look
and no, I do not use it to clean my car, its for my golf shoes.

It does point ever so slightly downward.....not too bad
just picture it in chrome or polish stainless steel.

last one
tell me your thoughts, do you guys think it'll look good?
fortunately the exhaust tips are all bolt on, if it sucks I can just take it right off.......
I guess I'll buy a pair and try it out.

Should I go oval or round?

umm, doesn't point as straight as the 04+ i think

but either way, i would worry about the tips being too close to the body. that might melt the paint?

oh man now imho that's a very bad idea. if heat doesn't kill the bumper, the vibration when you accel and the exhaust shaking will damage the paint for sure

Be careful as the exhaust gets hot enough to melt the rear bumper. Lucky I caught mine before it melted the bumper and did much paint damage. The problems with adding exhaust tips on 01-03 models is the downward bend near the end of the pipe. Most after market tips will not slide over these easily. Even if they could the line-up the exhaust pipe is straight, it would be pointing right into the bumper. There a couple guys here that did find nice exhaust tip(s) that fit over the factory pipe and looked great. For my LS430 I used a couple leather exhaust pipe hangers and dropped the muffler down so the pipe was lined up straight with the factory cut outs pictured above. Now I can mount on any straight exhaust tip pipe I want.
