Default Brake Pad Wear

My 2004 LS430 now has about 17000 miles on it. On my old Mercedes S class cars, I never, ever got more than 12,000 or 13,000 miles out of front brake pads (Pittsburgh...up and down hills all day).

I just had new tires and the installer eyeballed the pads and said they are OK. I am wondering if there is a wear sensor (like Mercedes) with a dash board light that will tell me when it's time.

ok since no one has answered, i will take a guess. i don't recall reading anything about this before so i say no. maybe when the pads are wearing you will start hearing squeaking sound?

yes, there is. I just changed both front & rear brake pads. It was way past its due date. Now the rear sensor is out. I will either pull it or replace it.
