One guy in the GS forum had an entire thread where he explained how to disable the ECU. Im going to try and find it.

All I get is compliment on the new look and NO ONE thinks it looks abnormal.
Will a '04-'05 trunk fit on a pre-'04 w/o any modification?

Do you have a link to the thread where you saw the other member who was attempting the exchange?

Thanks.

I have an 01 LS430 and I bought the 2004 inner and outer tailights as well as the 2004 Trunk. But the 2004 trunk that I have is missing the lock assembly and latch assembly. I planned on transfering the lock and latch from the 2001 to the 2004 trunk but I didn't get the chance yet.
I'm not even sure if the lock and latch assemblies from my 2001 will fit into the 2004, does anyone know?
I also need the center trim peice for the 2004 model (the peice with the "L") so if anyone has it, please PM me.
Thanks

Ok here are some pics. They are pretty crappy since they were taken with my bros camera phone. I 'll get better pics eventually. You can draw your own conclusions from these pics....

well i always like the clear taillights more, but the fact that the inner taillights don't line up well, that's kinda bummer. otherwise, it's a good improvement

I'm just waiting on "gs4to4" to confirm that the trunk fits fine with no complication then I may do the complete change over if I can find them at a reasonable price. But for now the look IS an improvement.

That clear tail is definitely an improvement. I don't know why still even make amber lenses in rear tails. That's so 1900's

Ok, so here's the trick. Its fragile & kinda Martha Stewart, but its worth it...

-Remove your Taillights.
-Heat your oven to 125 degrees.
-Stick your tail lenses in for 2-5 min.
(depending on pre-heat time)
-Check them every 30 sec or so
-Once the seals are loose, remove them from the oven.
-Separate the lens from the housing.
-Remove the orange reflector from the lens.
-Replace orange with clear.
(It will now look just like the red/white lens next to the rear trunk lid)
-Put it back in the oven briefly
-Remove & Reseal.
-Heat again for 45-60 seconds.
-Remove, let sit until seals are firm and Re-install.

I've done this on two SC400's, my folks '01 LS430 UL, & will be doing this to my LS430 UL once my broker finds the '04 I'm looking for...

Just keep in mind, this is a delicate process but, when done right, its flawless.

New here...just thought I'd share this with you on my first post! I've gone through 5 Lexus myself, also 2 Bimmers, 2 Range Rovers, a twin-turbo Supra, and, at present, an '02 S600. Looking forward to dumping the '02 S600 for my '04 LS430 UL! Btw...thank you, all of you, for such informative threads! Much Luck! -FB-

What do you mean by this? Do you have to go out and buy a clear reflector? If so, where?

I think you only need to take out the orange part, but I think the JDM one is clear, but correct me if I am wrong
