Nav Override - 2003 LS430
Nav Override - 2003 LS430 I don't know if this has already been posted so I thought I would post it just in case. I recently learned ion this website how to override the Nav System in my new 2005 SC43. However, I could not find any information on how to override the older Nav System like that in my 2003 LS430. I figured it out tongiht. This will allow you to input destinations while driving. Here goes:
Press Menu button on right side of Nav Screen
On this Menu Screen screen, it includes the "Suspend Guidance button, etc."
In the top right corner there is a DVD button
Press the DVD button which takes you to the DVD Information menu which tells you what DVD version is installed in your car
On this screen, press the touch activated screen as follows:
1. Top Left
2. Bottom Left
3. Top Left
4. Bottom Left
5. Bottom Right
The Service Menu will appear. Press and hold the "Override" button until you hear a beep and the button is highlighted. This is allow you to enter addresses, POI, etc. on the Nav system while the car is in motion. You must re-do this each time you restart the car and you can do it while the car is in motion so it can be helpful when your passanger can override the system and enter addresses for you on the go.
Hope this helps some of you with the older gen Nav Systems. Sorry I don't have screen shots for you, but it works. From my understanding from others, it is very critical that you know what you are doing to play with any of the other buttoms/options on this Service Menu. Apparently, they can screw things up if you don't know what you are doing.

It doesn't work for my '04. When you get to the DVD info screen, there is no "top left" etc to hit.

Nope. You can't get there thru "volume" either.

You have to know if you have a gen 3 or a gen 4 nav system. '04 LS430 nav is a gen 4. These instructions are for a gen 3. Gen 4 is accessed through the volume screen with a different set of secret buttons......

I see no way to access any "secret buttons" on the volume screen. Is there some hidden trick?

I have a 2001 LS430 and neither of the suggestions above seem to apply to the 2001. Does anyone know the procedure to do this with this year model? It is absolutely ridiculous that the passenger is not allowed to operate the system in motion. It would have been so easy since their is already a seat bag senser to let the car know someone is in the seat. Nowadays it is a lot more dangerous to pull off the road on a highway to stop than it is to let a passenger operate the system. Again I would appreciate any suggestions on how to do this on the 2001 model.....Thanks

2001 Ls430
The way to enable NAV entry while in motion on the 2001 LS430 was posted elsewhere as follows:
- Menu
- System Option
- Top left, bottom left, top left, bottom left, bottom right
- Override Drive
- Back
The only problem with this procedure is that the System Option screen cannot be accessed while in motion. But once you overide (say, when you stop or before you start moving), navigation entry is possible for the duration until you turn the car off.

Before I read your thread I got home from work and played with it and got it to work and it is exactly as you outlined the procedure. I have searched for a long time on how to defeat this with no luck....never found a thread even similar. Thank you all for making this info available. This forum is great.

Ahh, the search for the Holy Grail is over!
I have always suspected there was a software switch to allow Nav input while moving and now someone has found it.
Many many thanks to the originator of this - it works perfectly on my 2004:-
Menu button
Volume
Top left
Bottom left
Top left
Bottom left
Press and hold Override until it beeps
I tried it quickly last night to verify it worked (it does) - I assume phone pad input would now work while moving too
Funnily enough I believe the default lock-out makes the car potentially less safe - I frequently end up fumbling for my phone while driving if I need to dial an outgoing call (that's not on speed dial) and trying to enter an address in stop/go low speed traffic doesn't strike me as particularly safe.
But best of all is the fact that a pasenger can now do all the address entry while I concentrate on the driving!
Thank you!

It turns out the phone is still locked out - strange that the override works for Nav and not the phone
No biggie - there's a workaround for this (dial from the cell phone) and the Nav access was the main problem and that's now solved.
