Default Should I buy the LS???

I am going to buy an 01' LS within he next week. I was wondering what complaints you may have and what kind of real time gas mileage tyou get with this car. I am in my 20's and many people tell me this is an older persons vehicle. Do you guys get this alot? I plan to leave it bone stock with no mods.

Thanks,
Eddie

hi, welcome to club lexus.

regarding your question about the gas mileage, there's another thread discussing the gas mileage of the LS430. For me particularly, my mileage has been in the low 10s.... mostly due to city driving in NYC. But many others report much better numbers.

For the LS430 being an older person's car, yes, thats quite true. The demographics of LS430 owners tend to be older, but never let that stop you from buying a car that you wanted.
I am a young kid myself, and I think a few other LS430 owners here who are in their 20s...
Although I have to tell you that most of my friends have been mocking me, by telling me that I am driving grandpa's car, but they dont bother me much and most shut up after taking a ride in the car.

Down here in Miami I have never seen a younger person driving an LS430. I fell in love after driving a family members '04 LS Ultra Luxury. I have driven every other luxury car companys flagship sedan and this car absolutely blows away the competition. Down here everyone buys a 7 series BMW or an S or SL500 Mercedes. (most cannot even afford these vehicles mind you.) I have driven an '01 and an 04' LS plenty and I have averaged 18 city with 26 hwy hand calculated. I am just looking forward to the reliability of this car more than anything.

most ppls in hong kong who have LS are rather old(in their 50s) or have chauffer except me and my wife...we are always 24 and my wife looks like a management trainee...most of our friends are very puzzled with our choice before they took a ride...after riding on the LS, most of them are amazed with the car's performance

well, to be frank:
1 LS beats BMW3, 5, 7 and MB E S etc. hands down on comfort, fuel consumption, stability, control, safety
2 LS is extremely fast and beat most of the so called "sports car" hands down during "picking up"....in high way, when we accelerate most of the ppls eats dusts

LS is such a good car....just forget about these other ppls' look

Smile Buy The Ls?

Buy what you want, when i was 28 i usta listen to people tell me what to buy. I purchased a S- Class and traded in my GS 400 for it. To make it plain, it was a big mistake, I like Lexus but listened to them say a benz is for younger people. Why? because of what people think. If you look at facts the LS is the better buy, doesn't matter if its a LS 400 or LS430. I have a 2001 LS430 with Nav/Mark Lev. Best car in my book for the money. My second choice for luxury for the money might surprise some, its the 300 Chrysler. Anyway im 32 years old now and have seen that in life if you live by others opinions your not yourself. If you want the Lexus buy it because its what you want. If not buy something else, it only matters what you think, you payed for it, cash or financing it. GOD BLESS.

Default jealousy... an ugly thing

The people who say it's an old person's car are lying because they're jealous. It's that simple. Look around... it's NOT old people driving them. My wife and I, in particular, are not old. She's barely 20 and an LS has been her dream car forever. I couldn't hardly get her to let go of the wheel when she drove one. Look around and the people here, dude... they aren't old. Um... though we do see people freakin' over other's "brags" of going 125 mph, as if that were incredibly fast. It could just be because the LS crowd doesn't seem to be a top speed bunch. Driving an LS means you are smart, have taste and don't mind blowing the doors off the smarty pants who can't afford a real car and buy whatever and try to make you feel bad by saying it's an old person's car. Oh and another thing... while you're toasting them... you'll be riding better and smoother than they could ever dream!

Don't let the haters fool you, bro!!!

psh... I'm gonna go ride the block in my car... I'm missing it already!!!

Default Old peep's ride

Hey if you want an old person's car... buy ANY GM product made. All they make anymore are old people's cars. Like that Malibu... sheesh... you can practically smell the nursing home with it fresh off the lot!!! I love America and all things American... but I have to sadly say that American has lost it's #$%& mind when it comes to making cars!!! OH how I wish GM, Ford and the like would wake the heck up and make cars like they used to...

Here's a bit of trivia for you (and it might make you mad):
Japan is kicking our booty today because of what we taught them to do many years ago.
We are much more capable of making the world class cars and doing it cheaper... but we don't and why? I think it has to do with greed, frankly. For too many years our domestic manufacturers have been concentrating on making money, while our Japanese buddies are over there just trying to make a better car. In the end who makes more money? It's a no brainer, but look at GM today... a victim of their own stupidity and it's sad.

I wouldn't give up my LS430 for anything and you know what? To my shock and horror, I was not long ago giving Hyundai a serious glance. Guys don't laugh. I used to be the BIGGEST Hyundai-making-fun-of person in the world, but I'm fair minded and I have to say... they have PULLED IT TOGETHER!!! You can't... I repeat CAN'T get a better new car for the money than the '06 Sonata... end of story. But like I started to say... I wouldn't surrender my Lexus... but I love America and American companies and I would seriously buy an American car from the first company that showed genuine signs of repentence... but then again... I'm not holding my breath!!! Even Korea is planting their boots firmly into our rectums... and they are thought to be about as technologically retarded as a country could be, without lacking electricity and running water. What gives with the greatest country on earth (America)?

Speaking of an old person's car... when I was a young'un, my mom sold me a 1988 Delta 88. I don't drive it much except when I get nostalgic, but would you believe that thing has almost 300,000 miles on it (and shows no sign of quitting) and still runs as smooth and with as good a ride as any '06 GM product made today? In fact, if they updated the styling, they could sell the same car today and give Lexus a run for their money... no joke! Why, you might ask? Lexus would still be far better, but it would also be three times the price. Americans like value and you can't beat getting 80% there on 1/3 the cost... and this old looking, old person's, beat up thing rides and drives a fair comparison to today's best, all things considered. GM are you listening? Make a car that's appealing to the younger crowd in styling, but has internals based on that car. Give it a stiffer body and updated suspension and make the interior nice... KEEP THE DRIVETRAIN and just tune it a little if you must... and I will BUY THAT CAR for $30,000 plus some options. So will millions of other people!!! Why? Because we all love our country and want to buy our own products. But who in their right mind is going to buy something that they feel LUCKY to make it to 100k miles with major problems and will guaranteed lose 90% of it's resale value by the time it's 4 years old... ESPECIALLY when they can go buy a Lexus that is better in every regard and won't hardly have an issue till it's pushing 300-400k miles (!) and pay less for it in the long run!!! Not to mention everyone is starting to think the Japanese have a pretty cool culture...

Folks... enough of that... I'm over here dreaming again. The real truth? GM and all the other domestics won't gain respect no matter what they do, until they've been doing it for a number of years. And if we're smart, we won't trust them even then; there's a long history of making "better" cars for a while and then riding on that success and making crappy cars for twice as long as the good ones lasted. Then when everyone figures out they aren't good cars like they used to be, they all start making good ones again and then let it slide when sales come up. I don't know why... but craftsmanship and a dedication to excellence left America some time ago and I wish we would get our pride back! I'm encouraged to see some of it around from time to time, but it's way too rare and I haven't seen it much in our cars for at least 15 years...

My wife has a LS430 and I am sure she could "blow the doors off of Hondas, Escorts, etc. I on the other hand own (and can afford them) a few AMG's and feel confident in "blowing off doors". Yes I am old perhaps the oldest one on this forum and do feel old driving her car.
Don't kid yourself your LS is not fast. It has nice acceleration but fast does not belong in its repertoire and I'm sure it will ride smooth without its doors.
