I'm just curious what everyone paid. I was looking at the Modern luxury package, which is 64,200 MSRP. I am purchasing 2 so the local dealership took it down to 57,000. But seeing as how next year's LS will have a facelift, I don't know if they're desperate to sell or not.

Desperate? That might be a stretch. But you should definitely be able to get a sweet deal b/c of the upcoming change. BTW, not a facelift (that happened in '04), it's a complete redesign.

Ah I meant to put the facelift in quotes, I know it's getting redesigned as well as a new powerplant.

$56183 is invoice for 06 with modern luxury and smartaccess, 18'' all season tires, preferred accessory package. What is TDA, dealer holdback, Whsl. Financial reserve? Those 3 items add $2402, looks like dealer mumbo jumbo to me.

57k is high, particularly for two. Try to get them closer to 56k each at MOST.

Iron Chef - I think the TDA line items are simply extra profit. Maybe it stands for Total Dealer Addons? Dealer holdback is money paid to the dealer by the factory AFTER he sells the car. If you pay that amount, say $2,400, and then the factory pays him the same, he just made an extra an extra $4,800.00. If you are sure of the invoice price, offer him $500 over that. Then just sit there and don't say anything. If he balks, smile, stand up, offer him a handshake and tell him you need to do some more car shopping. Your best negotiating tools are a blank check in your hand and your two feet.

Good Luck!!

TDA stands for Toyota Dealer Advertising. A fee that dealers pay Toyota for TV and media ads.

BobsGX - Thanks for clearing that up - it's still just markup that you can take off of the price - like I told my dealer - your advertising costs are not my problem. Part of your cost of sales. Maybe the next guy will pay them, I won't. Works about every time.

Back in 2000 when I was purchasing a new Jeep Grand Cherokee, the dealer tried to add on the Chrysler dealer advertising fee of $200.00. I told him thats the price of doing business and I'm not going to pay it. He said I was right and deducted the $200.00. Don't let them con you into paying the TDA or whatever any other manufacturer calls it. Its just another way to get more money out of the consumer.
