Newbie need advice...
Hello all! I'm a newbie here but a long time Toyota/Lexus fan. After owning an Audi and Mercedes, I am going back to my roots which is owning IMO the best built automobiles on earth in terms of reliability, style, and design, a Toyota. I am in the market for an LS430 and have come across 2 cars.
2003 LS430 with Ultra package, 35k miles, mint condition, $44k asking price, CPO
OR
2004 LS430 ML, 22k miles, mint condition, $44k asking price, used car dealer
Which would be a better buy and a better car? I have heard of the numerous complaints regarding the '04 and it's recall so I'm wondering if these are isolated cases? In terms of resale value in 2-3 years from now, which car would hold up better? This is a concern as I may use this car to trade in for the redesigned LS.
BTW - Either car will be treated to a WALD upgrade (wheels and aero kit).
Thanks all in advance and I'm looking forward to all the benefits of being a member of this great forum.

John - My 2004 UL has been flawless. I bought it when the 05's were just coming in so if there were 2004 issues, maybe mine missed that. Take the VIN off the one at the used car dealer to a local Lexus dealer service dept. and see if they can pull a history for you. Good luck!

I agree with the last post. Take the vin in and you can know everthing. If you are REAL concerned- take the car to a dealer and give them a few bucks to go over it REAL good.
No matter where you buy a lexus the dealer will always treat you as if you bought it there.
You're main concern isn't parts, it's body damage- when coming from a used car dealer.
Then again- if you know you will be reselling to get the new LS, you may want to weigh in the fact that you can sell the UL still under warranty (WELL under warranty). The 04 may have some time left, but you may be close on miles, if not over. You will have to decide how you will drive the vehicle to include this factor.
Good luck- You'll love either one.
