Default VSC and Check Engine LIGHT!!!

I started the car this morning it was 50 degrees outside...I didn't give the car any time to warm up. After about 5 seconds during idle (in park) the car was very rough I gave it a second and put it in reverse and backed out of my driveway. I got about down the street and the car beeped and the CHECK ENGINE and VSC light were both on. Shut the car off and turned it back on, the car did it's system check and the lights are back on.

What do you guys think is the issue? Thanks!

Sorry I forgot, 2001 LS430 Ultra. The only code I see is "Check VSC" and there is a red triangle with an exclamation point in the center that is also on along with the check engine light and VSC Off light.

Is there a way for me to check the codes on this car? Thanks so much for the reply!

joe... is the car running fine now??? if so, it probably was just a freak thing.. maybe a misfire... if so, it will go away..

i got that a couple of times when running 87 octane on the LS and cranking the engine for a short time... not starting... when I started it again... it was fine except for the vsc and CEL.... all i did was disconnect the battery and reconnect it after 10 seconds... never came back...

I've got 2 suggestions...

1. The gas cap needs to be tight enought to click a few times. If it is not tight enough, you'll see problems like these.

2. You might have another electrical problem. Possibly with the electronic throtle control.

I'd check the codes on the car at the dealer if you see a similar problem in the coming days.

I just had the EXACT same symptoms as xsuperjoex and I have the exact same model. I haven't disconnected the battery terminals to reset it, but I'm currious if it is a throttle control problem too? Anyone have any info to update this thread?

I disconnected the ground and it looks like all sensors were reset. But should I just replace the O2 sensors if it happens again in the future? Lexus wants to charge me $120 just to hook up the scanner...

if it's not broke dont fix it... otherwise.. something else could go wrong...

If it does light up again, it might just be a sign to change them sensors... but before you replace them, you should have the dealer scan it first to make sure that is the prob....
