Default XM in the LS430

Guys... had the XM system installed at the dealer today for my '05 LS430. Was able to get a small discount, but I am very disapointed with the install. They stuck a small hokey puck antena on the trunk lid and then ran the cable around the edge of the trunk and around cord that goes from the trunk lid to the trunk. It looks some kind of high school install job. Is this what any of you have seen?
Thanks.

NO. Its usually installed inside, in the corner on top of the deck near the subwoofer. You cant really see it unless you look for it (the passenger side headrest hides it), THATS how its supposed to be.

Sorry I dont have a picture. But its 5inches behind the rear headrest, with only an inch or two of wiring coming out from under the deck trim. Looks nice and clean. I would go back asap to the dealer and have them rewire it the right way. I doubt you're dying to tell the entire world you have an XM radio.

Default That is the factory install method....

but it looks like ......inorder to place it inside a new wire will be needed for the antenna or a splice required. We have found the rear parcel shelf install to get decent reception in our area and it is not exposed to damage. The trunk lid install is held on by a magnet and the hockey puck will twist and the wire will pucker and as you stated looks like an amateur placement...

Unhappy

On my 2006 LS 430, the dealer installed the XM radio antenna on the rear deck near the sub-woofer. BUT, he did a very poor job routing the wire inside the trunk. The right side trunk covering was removed in order to install the wire and replaced with pop rivets. The pop rivets are not secure. When I noticed this, I took the car back the same day, but the poor technician (?) had obviously done the best he knew how to do.

Needless to say, I feel like the dealer really screwed up the interior of the trunk of the car . . . glad it doesn't show. And nothing I can't fix eventually with a little duct tape.

Haven't been back since then, and don't plan to return til required to by the maintenance schedule. Helluva' note that you can't get decent installation of such a simple addition to the car.

I posted on this subject awhile ago after getting XM isntalled in my car. At the dealers suggestion, they installed the antenna inside the center brake light on the rear deck. I have had no problems with reception and there is absolutely nothing visible.

These problems are the result of Lexus being late to the satellite radio game and what happens when you don't offer a factory-install option. Thankfully the 2007 LS will have factory-installed XM, meaning there will be a proper fixed sharkfin antenna on top of the roof instead of some ugly, tacky blackbox with wires showing.

I talked with a Lexus rep at the Taste of Lexus driving event last fall and this seems to be a real sore issue with many Lexus owners and a big source of complaints.

I just hope the factory-installed XM with sharkfin antenna will be available on ALL Lexus models in 2007 and not just the LS.

Guys... first, thanks to everyone for the responses. Now to bring all up to date. Tim Day and his crew, along with Jerry Bush (GM), did a wonderful job making the install correct. If anyone is looking for the BEST Lexus dealer or service group, give Tim or Jerry a call at Lexus of Clear Lake.
