Default Timing belt replaced on 2001 LS430

Just had my timing belt and water pump replaced today, mileage was 97,000miles, belt still looked new, little bit of debris in camshaft covers. Was surprised to see a plastic impeller on the original water pump, the replacement pump had a metal impellar. I was really surprised how easily my mechanic did the job.

He does not specialize in Lexus, but can work on anything with wheels, he does use a laptop with an internet connection to view the procedures, I was their for most of the teardown, I got to the front of the engine with everything removed and cleaned, it was very interesting how it all goes together. It cost me $200 for the timing belt, and 2 bearings, and $200 for the water pump, and he charged me 6 hours labor at $70.00 per hour, total bill was $820.00 plus tax, more than half of what the cost would have been at our local Lexus dealer, and I believe I got a better job done, he also changed my coolant and cleaned my throttle body.

Yea my mechanic tells me that all the LS400/LS430's he's seen around 90k-130k, the timing belts look great. Wish the over built Timing belts for other cars the same way.
