Blown factory ML sub ??? WTF
Hey all,
Driving to work the other day, I turn up the tunes a little and I hear the popping of a blown speaker. I check it out and it's coming from the sub on the back deck. This really stinks ! WTF !!!!
How much is a replacement and what is the best route to go with this? I'm not afraid to pull it apart but, dispointed that such a nice system as the ML and the sub blows. This needs to be fixed asap.
Thanks in advance !

Do it yourself ML subs... how to repair
Hi,
I too have ML sub but mine hasn't blown yet, knock on wood of course. If someone has one that is blown and can post the picture up. I am pretty sure that I can help the forum save BIG bucks. When you say blown, I am assuming that the foam surround has rip causing the nasty sound. If that is the case, then all you have to do is a bit of research on the net and you'll be able to fix it yourselves.
You just need to do a search for re-foam something like this
http://www.speakerplace.com/kits.asp
I don't not work or have done business with this place. Just an example and to give you an idea what to look for and how to go about it.
I have done this with my 3 of mine JL audio 10W6 subs 1998 model.. very old speakers.. most subs nowaday are made of rubber surround instead of the foam.
good luck and hope everyone save $$$.

Anyone find a good price on replacement ? My wife lost her job and even though we are doing fine, I can feel the pinch. Spending $300 is not the best thing right now if I can find the right deal.
I don't want to lose the sound of the system by dumping a crappy or 3rd party sub in it. I just want to make sure the sound does not change, as I love the system.
How hard is the removal of the back seat and back panel ?

I believe we can find an even more durable and cheaper replacement that performs substantialy similarly to the original if we can find out the specific specs of the sub. Particularly thew ohms impedience, the magnet weight, power ratings, frequency response etc. Theres tons of speakers out there that could fill the space and perform at least as well if not better than a $300 ML replacement would.
If someone knows these specs please port them. I know its a 8 inch sub.

you can get coils repaired. Here, there is a place here that repairs amps, headunits, subs etc. They also are a authorized retailer for all sorts of electronics (although its just a small shop) there they charge you, I think around $75, if I can remember right. Plus, I think they warranty their work. Me and a friend took a xtant (one of those five sided subs) said it was the coil and I think thats how much they estimated it at, I think it wasnt even that much.
