How many miles do YOU have on your LS430? (The Mother thread)

I have no evidence that the timing belt has been changed. My Lexus dealer said the belt would be about $600 for the belt only, and $990 for the complete kit. Should I expect the final price will be a good bit more? Thanks

If its a dealer, I would expect the price to be fixed. Thay want you back. I found someone that would do it for $800, water pump and all. But I wasnt sure he could do the jub so I went to a Lexus only garage that charged me $1400. Its a critical job that normally I would do my self but I was sick at the time and because it WAS a critical job I chose someone that I was fairly sure wouldnt mess it up. Your dealer is unlikely to mess it up.

Contrary to what many on the forum might recommend, your timing belt will very likely last a long time if you choose to go down that path. Look at this thread to get a rough idea on what to expect if you were to change it now. Note that the car in that thread is one year newer than yours and has about 10k less miles than yours. For another data point, I replace the belt in my 2004 last fall that had roughly 125k miles on it and it was in similar condition.
Most owners on the forum change it for the piece of mind that it might bring...

Thanks, Gronemus. I would change the belt for the peace of mind. I hate paying the bucks, but you know... I don't know much history except carfax and there's no record of the belt there. The dealership here in Jackson MS probably has more history with the VIN #. That'll be next weeks project. Also, trying to diagnose the mute radio. I'm hoping not to tear out the trunk liner first thing, but I can deal if necessary. Do you happen to know of any mysterious mute mode? Thanks again.

Let's not sidetrack this thread too much. Caddy, feel free to use the search function as most issues have been covered and if you can't find what you need then feel free to start a new thread and we will be happy to chime in and get you squared away.

Just hit 170,000 miles
I've put 12,000 Miles on it.
Had blown head gasket when I bought it (for the price i basically stole the car!), bought head gasket sealer for about $65, no more burning coolant. Other than that, absolutely no problems
Ultra quiet and smooth ride, plenty of torque. My previous car was a 2002 Honda Accord that wouldnt make 100 Lb/FT. Now i make 330!

I hit 195,000 on the way in to work this morning.. I'm on vacation in 2 weeks and will be doing the timing belt on the '01 then. So, It'll be just shy of 200K when I crack it open.
