What are the possibilities of replacing the originally supplied roof antenna, I think used for Homelink services, on 2004-2006 LS 430's with a color coded sharkfin antenna used for satellite radio reception? Has anyone tried this? It occurs to me it would be a much neater install and better satellite reception rather than a XM antenna installed next to the rear window brake light on the inside.

I had the same thought, but have backed off after a bit of quick research. I believe the original Lexus Link system used the 850 MHz band for analog cell phones and XM or Sirius use approximately 2.3 GHz, so frequency is up by a factor of 3. My guess is the Lexus OEM antenna would not work very well, but you might be able to adapt something from a ham radio store to work. My real fear would be that the gain from what is essentially a simple whip antenna might not be enough, although XM does use ground repeaters in major cities.
