I love my new car. I just bought a 2001 LS430 (no nav) with 95,000 miles on it for $22,500. It's in excellent condition, and I can't believe how comfortable it is. I'm 6'4", and the legroom is incredible.
When I tell people that I bought a car with 95,000 miles on it, they look at me with disbelief and say "You did what?" Am I crazy? I hope not. I have heard that these things run into the 300,000 miles, and I only put 8,000 miles on it annually.
I love this machine and just had to share my sentiment with some like-minded folks.

Okay, so this is really a question of that I have been itching to answer for a while. I am a younger guy looking to purchase an LS430. I dont make an excessive amount of money that would lend me the ability to throw it away on a brand spanking new LS460 or very new 430. I do have the ability to spend for a 2004 LS though. I have debated about purchasing a car with such high mileage, and then vs. it against another with around 50k.
Cars.com for instance has an 04 nav/ml/sprt sus with 85k miles for about 28k.
http://k-f-auto.ebizautos.com/detail.aspx?iid=1415205
The also have similar optioned 04 LS's with 50k miles for 37k.
Now with the average useage I have gotten out of my current vehicle for the previous 7 years, i'm at about 14.5k a year. So pitting these two vehicles against each other, i'll be paying somewhere around $7k more for two years worth the usage. 3.5k a years not bad.
How do you guys all feel about this? If I could get another 100k easily out of this car, then why stress over 35k more for three quarters the price?

This is exactly the thought process I had when last December I bought a 2004 Modern Luxury with 81k for 27,500. I've put 5k on the car since.
The factory battery I replaced and that's about it. The car was completely serviced at Lexus for the 5, 15, 30, 45, 60 and 75k mileage, and I think the service history is key when buying a higher mileage newer car. The tires and brakes were brand new too; which together probably would've run an extra thousand or so (something to think about when looking at ~50k in mileage cars).
In 12/2006, the lowest LS430's from 2004 with NAV were running around 34k, and they all seemed to have 50+k miles. I almost bought a 2003 for 29k, but I'd have missed the backup camera, smart key, 6 speed tranny, and all the other added features of the year newer model.
So in my 6 years of owning 2 Lexus cars, you can't go wrong with 75-100k cars as long as they've been serviced. The car I sold was a 98 GS 300 that I drove for 5 years. I bought it with 42k and sold it with 105k. I kept up on the maintenance, and the car (to me) ran and drove just as well at the end as it did in the beginning.
We're not talking about 80k on a Chevy Cavalier or Ford Tempo here folks!

One more thing - if you find a car you're interested in, get the VIN# and call any Lexus dealer. Do NOT say you are considering the car as I was told by one dealer they couldn't give out service history records unless you own the vehicle.
I called another dealer, told them I just bought the car, gave them the VIN# and they faxed over all the information to me. Tell them you want to be sure the car has had all its maintenance; just don't tell them you don't own it yet.
I got very lucky as a lady real estate agent bought my car brand new (In July of 2004) and even had Lexus do the oil changes and brake jobs. The dealer even stamped all maintenance history in the owner's manual where applicable. I would not hesitate to buy any 2-3 year old Lexus even with 80k on the odometer, if its been serviced properly.

While I think you could've found an Ultra version for that money, it's still an incredible car and you'll love driving it everyday. Again, that car is just broken in, and people who balk at the mileage are used to driving much cheaper cars that often fall apart after 75k. There's an article somewhere about the 1990 LS400 owner (In Texas, I believe) who racked up 550,000 miles on his car....
