Might this be possible?
I just traded my 99 S420 in. It had the double thick glass and it really kept in quiet inside.
I see you can get this option on the Ultra.
I do not have the Ulta but sure miss that doubled glass for its quietness.
I am in the insurance biz and deal with glass companies all the time.
Could I not order the double laminated glass and have it installed?
Would this be possible. Anyone know?

I wonder if the window regulators and all that internal stuff would be different as well? I would think not.
I have to tell you, the difference in interor sound is amazing. I will try and
start researching this.
I can get glass at 40% off with my insurance discount right here in town.
So if anyone is interested and we find that this application will work, I would
more than happy to pass on the glass saving/s to you as well

I think it may be the nature of the noise. A neighbor's W140 S500 seems to have substantially less wind noise and a little less road noise than my 2000 LS400 when on the highway at 70-80 mph. But at lower speeds and while accelerating on city streets, his S500 seems a lot louder than my LS due to it producing more mechanical noise.

I hope your glass guy cuts you a real good discount. I had my left rear door glass changed and at cost the glass ran almost $500. They also told me the thickness of the glass is important (was looking to put in something as little as possble, but the glass company said it would not work...they sent me to the dealer). There is a significant difference is sound, but at what cost are yoy looking to pay to get it?

I would imagine your are going to have issues with both the glass fitting in the door panel correctly, and the stength of the lifters. You would probably need to at least replace both of those, and the entire door might be different although unlikely.
