I was wondering if anyone here knows a fix to my problem. I just got my LS430 back from the body shop and got the front bumper resprayed because of all the rock chips I had on it. Well I have park assist and they sprayed over the sensors. Now when I activate the park assist all the front sensors immediately start beeping as if there is an object in front of me. I believe that painting over the sensors is the problem. The problem now is that I don't know if I should just remove the paint around the sensor on the rubber seal or remove the paint on the sensor itself. If anyone here has any advice on how to fix this problem that would be appreciated. Thanks

Remove the paint in the center of the sensor. The circle. Up to the edge of the circle, you dont need to remove from the outer ring or the rubberized area between the circle and the ring. I took a flathead and scraped it off and then re-applied a thin coat of paint and problem solved. Good luck.

You could use paint thinner I guess...as long as the sensor is cleared of paint. As long as you are scraping the paint and not digging into the plastic, you wont hurt the sensor. The sensor is behind the plastic. Go slow and slowly scrape off the paint like you would paint on your fingernails after painting your home.

OK great. I think I am just going to use your scraping method. Paint thinner might mess up the plastic cover. Thanks for the advice. I will let you know if it works
Just out of curiosity. Did the same happen to yours and did your sensors act up because of the paint?

Anthraciteboy,
Something that might work a little better then the flat tip screwdriver is a Rotary Tool ....... like a Dremmel ........... Take a small fine grade sand paper and use it very lightly across the area you wish to clear .......... usally doesn't hurt the screen section, but clears all the unwanted paint away.......... also easier to control.
Try it out and let me now how it worked!!!!!

Well I took razor blade to it and it looks decent but i might use the rotary tool technique recommended by TWQ83 to make it look better. All the sensors work like they are suppose to now except for the front right side which I think I put too much paint on it again. Thanks everyone for your information and input.

I think you may have to buy a new sensor to replace it. Dealers or on-line dealers can order it for you. I think it's about $120 for the smaller ones and $130 for the larger ones. And yes they are color coded so you need to tell them your color code.

They are easy to install but hard to get to. I managed to change my front side ones w/o taking off the bumper cap but I did take off the bumper cap once to replace the laser cruise sensor and the larger sensors in the center can't be replaced w/o taking off the bumper cap. As for the rear ones I can't help you but if you can see them you should be able to change them w/o taking off the bumper cap.
Took me 3 hours to take off and install the front bumper cap, and I was working really carefully and slowly since they are painted part. I had about 5 bathtowls spread out on the floor for the bumper to sit on...
