What does your MPG read on your dash for city and hwy? Mines read only 14 MPG in usual city driving. I am wondering what does the MPG reading on your dash say during your trip?

mine runs at aprx:
*10.5-11 liters / 100km mixed city and highway (aproximately 70% highway, 30% city). If i calcultated right that should be arround 22 mpg
*Highway only, speeds up to 120km/h 9.8l /100 km = 24 mpg
I am never driving 100% city so i dont have any numbers on that.
If you get 14 mpg in City, that should be correct with numbers from Lexus = city 16l / 100km

My window sticker said 18 MPG City & 25 MPG Highway. I've only owned this 05 LS430 a couple of months & haven't really taken a highway trip with it, but my city driving has been about 16.5 MPG with regular unleaded gas. I checked the comuter MPG by dividing the gallons into the miles & it was right on. I plan to change to super unleaded soon & see if it improves this MPG. The area I live in is pretty hilly & I wonder if that doesn't make the MPG a little lower.

Would you say 14 MPG is normal in city driving? I expected a higher MPG readout on my dash due to I being a light pedal driver and with the LS430 specs as rating 18mpg city and 25hwy. My tire pressure are at 34lbs and using premium Chevron gas at 92 octain. I'm going to try changig the oil to mobil 1 syn 5-30 wt. and also change out the air filter to K&N soon. Maybe even change out the plugs and 02 sensors also if not reported MPG gains arrive. My 2001 LS430 has only 43780 miles on it and I just picked it up a few days ago. Any tune up tips????

I wouldn't change the 02 sensors unless you have a code telling you to do so. I changed my air filter about every 9000 miles. Plugs don't get changed until 100K. I ran 35 PSI in my tires. I got around 17 city and 25 Hwy with my 2002 LS 430.

My average is around 20.5 miles/gallon, with the A/C on and driving in the City mostly. I have to say my driving style is geared towards saving gass. I think I can easily get over 27 miles/gallon on the freeway. 02 LS430

can I ask newbie questions?
what data does the computer use to calculate mpg:
average over current tank?
average over most recent 100 miles?
average over last 5 tanks of gas...
does it use intake manifold vacuum as a factor?
how to reset the computer to start another baseline?
or does it reset with every ignition start?
tia.

Very good question mywong23....I would like to know the answer also. It looks to me the MPG on the dash changes every so much short distance increments. Mines went down to 13.7 the other day while just driving around the block. The power on the car seems sluglish compared to my 2000 GS300 which is more zippy and fast response on the trottle. Maybe I would need to change my air filter and plugs. I wonder what the dealer charges to change the spark plugs????? I can do the air filter my self.

I think its for the last 500 or 600 miles.

I get about the same 13.9 mpg mostly city. Is it because of the gas. I use premium gas Chevron 92 octane and drive lightly on the pedal. Are we suppose to get 18 city and 25 hwy? Others are getting this or higher. I want to achive this mpg also. Any suggestions.
