90105 14151 are for the front brakes and the 90105 14152 are for the rears. Lexus says they are a one time use bolt and if you look on the threads there is a loctight on them.

Got raped on this one guys, literally. Got it done at the dealer, $650.00 just to do the front. Replacement of pads, turning of rotors. I was Furious, but had no choice at that point because they were so bad. But thats not the best part, It was only the front that needed the work, they told me they did both front and read but when i took it back the next time for an oil change they told me that the rears needed to be done. Last time i ever went to the dealer to get any work done EVER.

But in other threads on replacing brake pads, there is no mention of having to remove these bolts. These are big bolts about 1/2" in diam. and 3 to 4 inches long. The only bolt that they removed was one about 1/4 in diam. that was held with a keeper.

Speed,

You only have to replace the larger bolts if you remove the calipers. You only need to remove the calipers if you are cutting or replacing the rotors. I just replaced the pads on my 01'. Front and rear without touching the rotors. There are two different camps on rotors. Some say cut or replace them everytime you change pads. Others say don't replace them unless they are deeply grooved or worn.

I ran my finger nail across my rotors and barely felt anything because they were so smooth. Along the bottom of the rotors there will be a rusted area because the pads don't touch there. The rusted area and the shiny area where the pads wear are at the same level which leads me to believe the rotors are not worn. On my son's es300 the rear rotors had a slight lip between the rust area and the smooth section so I replaced those rotors.

I then "bedded" the brakes. There are different methods to doing this. The idea behind it is that there are minute ridges on your unturned rotors and to get the maximum pad contact you have to "bed" the pad to the rotor. The process I used was to accelerate to 40mph brake down to 20 mph 5-6 times. Then accelerate to 60 mph and brake to 10 mph 5-6 times never coming to a complete stop. Drive around for ten minutes to let the brakes cool and you are done.

It takes you more time to jack you car up and take the tires off than it does to switch out the pads.

Default 2006 specific questions for brakes.

On the 2006 LS430, is there a Brake sensor on the front pads? If so, would someone please provide the part number? I am coming up on my first brake service, and the fronts are the set that will need replacing. I want to make sure I order the right parts from Sewell.

Thanks,
Randy B

Sewell parts department is pretty good about asking what year and model your ordering for without you providing a part number. Why are you ordering a new sensor, did the 'Brake Wear' warning light come on? The sensors are just on the passenger side from what I understand.

My 01' had a sensor on the passenger side front and rear pad. There is a small metal clip on the top of them. Pop that off and they slide out of a groove on the pad. Hold your new pad next to the old one when replacing it and you can see where it goes. If your "brake" light has not illuminated you do not have to replace the sensor. Take it off of the old pad and put it on the new one.

Some of the guys recommend not reinstalling the sensor. If it does activate each sensor is $80 for the part. You might need to Lexus clear the code or you can try disconnecting the battery for 1 minute. If you don't reinstall the sensor you can wire tie it out of the way.

Why would someone defeat what Lexus engineers designed?
It would think replacing a sensor is a lot cheaper than replacing a rotor or having to rush to get a brake job because your down to the metal.

Speed,

I agree. I put mine on the new pads. I think the majority of guys who elect not to put them on are very aware of where there car is at concerning maintenance intervals. Therefore they are able to change pads before the sensors are close to being an issue.

I made a maintenance schedule that I keep in the glove box. It has every fluid/amount/type that the car uses and I record my changes on it so I can keep current with the maintenance. I have a separate section on the sheet for miscellaneous such as brakes, belts, air filter etc. By looking at the schedule I can easily jog my memory for the last maintenance I performed if I don't recall exactly what I completed. I also have a folder on my desktop that has maintenance tutotrials from here and other websites.

An example would be brakes. We obviously go a lot of miles before a new brake change. I can look at my maintenance schedule and see if I replaced front pads, rear pads, any rotors, flushed the fluid, etc. This way I don't have to depend solely on my memeory for maintenance that isn't done frequently.

Unless your rotors are warped or badly grooved, it makes no sense whatsoever to replace them. I just did the pads on my 2000 (not sure if the 2001 and up is the same) and it was incredibly easy to do...the hardest part was literally removing and replacing the tire. I did reinstall the sensor and did the pad bedding that lex2001 describes.
