Took the (really) long way home today through the winding canyon roads. I do quite wish the seats had taller bolsters, but the car definitely wasn't designed with this in mind.

I'm pretty much on that same set up. It makes for a pretty good look. 19x8.5 +40 with a +10mm spacer in the rear. 245/40r19 PS4S. Fortune auto gen 7 coilovers.

Just picked up this gem 4 days ago. 146k miles. Super clean inside and out. Just a few scrapes on the front and rear bumpers which I'll get taken care of. :-)

@ChopsGS Helmholz resonator went on yesterday. I targeted a 125hz frequency and went with a 6-1/2" long piece of 2" pipe with a 6" long x 5" diameter canister on the end. this was installed in line wih the tips where the rear muffler would have been. Absolutely all drone has been eliminated. The car is quieter, but just because we removed that resonance. It's absolutely silent at cruise but under throttle with the windows all closed you get a nice burble that wasn't there before. I could take a little more volume, but I'm so close to perfect right now I don't think I'll risk changing anything and ending up with too much drone or too much volume. This is still the quietest car I own, but not silent anymore.

To most people I would recommend a resonator and muffler delete and then fabricate a helmholz resonator to fit your needs to eliminate drone that's created. I spent about $50 on materials in stainless 304 and $200 to have it all welded and installed by the same shop that did my muffler delete.

Looking good! I honestly think these cars look best on 19's, but that's just me. I may look into getting some 10mm spacers for the rear of mine as well. And yes, I wish these seats did have a bit of side bolstering.

Just curious, what springs did you go with on your Fortune Auto coilovers? The stock 12k/8k? How does it ride and do you ever have a full car load of family or friends in it? I'm running 14k/10k.

BTW, absolutely beautiful picture! Great scenery in your neck of the woods. Wish I could say the same for here in ugly flat Florida.

Very nice! Would you happen to have any pics of the resonators installed?

Supplier for those? Those fit better then some that I've seen.

Obviously the same on the other side. All 304 stainless, but they painted the large canister to make sure it's not visible at all from the outside or to at least reduce its visibility. I can confirm that you can just barely make something out, from extreme angles, but nothing you'd normally ever see.

Thanks for sharing! Looks great. I need to do this on mine as well, the drone is somewhat bad. Did you purchase the 304 stainless steel from somewhere else and bring it to the shop? I haven't seen canisters like that, usually it's just a closed off pipe as one part. I wonder what difference the length/diameter of the canister makes

Yea that's exactly what I did. I actually did some of the fabrication on my own to keep the cost as low as possible.

Stainless steel piping came from Summit Racing. a 1 foot section of 5" pipe came with enough to do both sides. Sadly I had to order 2 feet of the 2' pipe as I needed 6-1/2" legs based on my calculations. I then ordered a piece of 12"x12" 16 ga 304 steel plate from speedymetals.com

When calculating your helmholz resonator remember that it's the inside of the tubing that's doing the work so you need to calculate the internal diameter and not the external diameter that they use to sell the piping. Most quality piping is goign to be 16 ga or 0.065 thick. that means you have to delete that thickness from both sides of the piping making the 5" pipe really 4.87" .

I also wouldn't go crazy different on the "leg" that feeds the chamber. I based my 2" off the fact that the factory piping is 2" and they stepped up to 2.5" for the muffler delete to fit the tips properly. I noticed that HKS used a 2" leg to feed their chamber on their 2.5" downpipe for their Subaru GRS/Toyota GT86 mid-pipe. I trusted they'd done the testing and decided not to re-invent the wheel. My calculations showed i could have save a little length with a 1.5" diameter "leg" to feed the chamber, but I didn't trust it.

Windows down you don't hear a ton of exhaust, but with all the windows up and the stereo at a reasonable volume (how I drive when the wife and daughter are in the car) it has a nice grumble to it but not too loud or annoying. Keeps the luxury intact and reminds me a bit of an E-class AMG from the early 2000's which was my target. for volume.

It ran me about $220 shipped, but the wait time sucked. Took 3 months from purchase date.

Thanks for the pic and detailed description in your following post! Great research and results. I gather you went with the 5" pipe to drastically cut down on overall length while still meeting the desired tuning frequency. Makes sense.

I'm a firm believer of these Helmholtz resonators ever since I had the HKS exhaust and Motordyne test pipes, both of which utilized Helmholtz resonators in their designs.

BTW, your LS is clean!!!!
