Default LED 7443 - Taillamp Failure Warning?

I just bought two red 18 SMT LED tower 7443 bulbs. Will using these cause the taillamp failure warning light to come on?

A 7443 bulb on the right side burned out and the light came on yesterday. I replaced the burnt bulb with a 36 LED 7443 that I had gotten a while back (and had never used because they weren't bright enough), but the warning light still lights up when I start the engine. Will I have to get load resistors if I use LED bulbs?

Most people just pull out the bulb int he dash, its usually easier then the load resistors.

Well, that doesn't really solve the problem...the audible alert would still sound and the LCD would still say taillamp failure...

Do you have an idea of where I should mount the load resistor? It says that cannot contact paint or plastic.

If the bulbs are bright enough, I will buy load resistors. Splicing some wires should be much easier to do than taking apart the dash and pulling out a bulb.

Here are some pictures of the area around the right taillamp:

If I were to get load resistors, where would be a good place to mount it (and which of the two green wires is for brake)?

Well, the LED bulbs arrived today. I put the two into the lower half of my right taillight. They are about the same brightness as the original bulbs, but the light up a whole lot quicker and are much more red. Here are some pics:

LED Bulb

Left side is stock, right side has 2 LED bulbs.

Close-up of right taillight, the LEDs are much more red compared to stock.

Any ideas on which wire I should attach the resistor to? I ordered 4 load resistors today. I'm using the SMT LEDs in the outsides and the 36 LED bulbs that I originally had on the insides.

i want to upgrade the interior and the exterior lighting, but i was also concerned with the dummy light turning on. after ive read few threads from many other forums regards to these upgrades, "LED Flashers" and or resistors are needed.

why cant it be just plug-n-play . . . . .

I have no problem with the interior, I have LEDs all the way around and I don't get error messages (9 LED 31mm festoon in the dome, waffle BA9s LEDs in the 4 map lights, and waffle 194 LEDs in the doors and trunk).

Exterior lighting is a totally different case. Our cars won't need flashers, but resistors are necessary unless you like that little red triangle.

Speaking of that, I forgot to post an update. My resistors, all 4, have arrived. I installed the 2 SMT LEDs on the outside housings. I'm getting very strange results, can anyone help? I have very basic electrical knowledge (from fixing computers and making model police cars)...

2 Bulbs: No problem
2 LEDs: Both light up, taillamp failure warning
1 LED + 1 Bulb: Both light up, taillamp failure warning
1 LED w/ Resistor + 1 Bulb: Neither light up
1 LED + 1 LED w/Resistor: Both light up, taillamp failure warning
2 LEDs w/ Resistors: Neither light up

I have the splice taps on the green wire (parking lamp) and on the white/black wire (ground). The green/white wire is the stop lamp. Is that correct? They are supposed to go on the parking lamp, which I believe is the green wire. I tested the splices and they had 12V flowing through them. The resistors got hot when I had the parking lamps on for a while, so I have them connected securely.

Well, I had some time today, so I took a look at the resistors and LEDs again. Here's what I found:

1 LED w/ 1 Resistor + 1 LED w/ 2 Resistors: Neither light up
2 LEDs w/ 2 Resistors: Both light up, taillamp failure warning

It looks like I need 15 ohm resistors...I will get some and try again. *sigh*

is it different ohms for different LEDs?? how do you know what kind of resistors you need?

Possibly...

I'm guessing because 10 ohm isn't enough and 20 ohm is too much. If you're (or anyone else) interested in doing the same thing, I'll keep you posted. I'm determined to get this working.

Crap...

15 ohms still isn't enough, the LEDs flash, turn off, and I get taillamp failure. I will get some 18 ohm ones this weekend. Hoping that they will have it...

I'm trying to disconnect the #4 pin of the lamp failure module, but I can't seem to find it...I opened up the black box on the left side of the trunk, and there was an orange box there, but it said relay on it and isn't the right size.
