Painting wheels?

had winter wheels/tires on the two Benz we had,, local shop shot them with a clear coat and think I paid $100 a set,, been a few years back,,
don't know what they did to prepare the surface to assure the paint adhered but they did indicate they would need preped,, you could certainly tell the clear coat was on them and after three years use it had not chipped or started to peal,,

Aside from having a shop spray them, Duplicolor, VHT, Wurth, and others offer aerosol wheel paint. I've used various ones of them over the years and if you prepare the wheel properly you can get a very good result if you know how to spray with a 'gheto bomb.' (Do NOT put the clear coat over the paint, just use the paint only.) I painted some CRX wheels, MB wheels, BMW wheels, and they all looked pretty much like factory finish afterwards. With normal care and if you don't use one of the many overly harsh wheel & tire cleaners on the market the finish will hold up very well. The keys to success are in proper surface preparation and proper spraying technique.
