Default Shaky Ride after new wheels/tires

Hey all,

I just put on a set of Lexus ISP Mode wheels on my 2001 Lexus LS430 wrapped with 235/50-18 BFGoodrich g-Force KDWS tires. I used to have Hankook Ventus II tires on the 10-spoke 17" GS300 (07) rims on my LS which didn't affect the ride of the car. With the new 18" ISPs, the LS now shakes and vibrates even at 40+ mph. I had it balanced and aligned, but the problem still exists. I did a search before this post and found nothing really concrete. Does anyone have any idea as to what else I can do to get rid of the vibration?

Thanks all--Jonathan

18's and new tires should not cause any vibration... It has to be mounting, balancing or alignment...

I would have that double checked by someone else..

I have stock 18's on my LS with new Michelin Pilots that ride very nice.. except for snow..

What size are your tires? Could the ride rougher because I have 'snow' tires? Thanks for responding Scott

Get a on the car wheel balance. Believe its called a road force balance. Snow tires shouldn't cause it to wobble.

I meant my tires ride nice except for when it snows. I am in michigan and you are in Florida so you don't here about the "S" word very often...We currently have 10 plus inches of snow on the roads...

I am sure you don't have snow tires as they probably don't sell snow tires in Florida very often...

Regardless... NO new tires you have installed on your vehicle should shake wobble, rattle, etc....

Take it back to where you had them installed and have them take a drive in it...
They will fix it...

Thanks for the input guys. I will go back to TiresPlus and see what they can do. Scott, I bought my tires online. I have the BFG g-force KDWS. The KDWS stands for Key features: Dry, Wet and Snow...hence KDWS (not my idea, haha) Where in Michigan are u located? I might be moving up to Michigan to attend law school in Ann Arbor in the fall. Figured I should get an all-season tire, since my decision on where to attend law school is still pending.

Sounds like a balancing problem to me. All Lexus are EXTREMELY sensative to balance. Look for a shop which has a Hunter9700 (AKA Hunter Roadforce) balancing machine. This has proven to be one of the best tools for balance when dealing with Lexus automobiles.

Sounds good. Also I have a general question. If you have staggered wheels, is it necessary to have a staggered tire setup? or can you have all 4 tires the same size? Just thinking out loud. Thanks!

If you have staggered wheels,, all 4 tires are NOT going to be the same size. Kinda of the purpose of a staggered setup. Most people with stag wheels, have the back tire wider than the front. Same size, rim wise but not same dimension. IE. 235/30/20 in the front,,,275/20/20 in the rear (just puling random numbers). Rims size is 20" regardless, but width and height of the tire are different. Advantage, better performance, smoother ride, more responsive. Disadvantage,,, not able to rotate tires.
