Default Gas mileage

Does anyone else get as good as gas mileage as me!!! Going 70 I always get between 24 and 25 mpg. Some people don't believe me.

Yes, if I can set my cruise at around 72, and go for 50 miles+, I can get 28'ish. That's why I don't understand the EPA ratings at the time, like 16/23? Also, direction of travel matters, usually one way is better than the other (on a round-trip)...

my avg since 10/16 ia 19.74. Worst was 14.7,best 28.22 (recorded at fill up). Min distance 80 mi, max 403. Miles driven is 26,964.

I have considerable city driving, and with the BMW and Maxima doing the same commute, they avg. 21.7. So I consider the penalty for having a V8 about 2 mpg--really not that bad.

Just drove 850 miles yesterday in my '05. Averaged 27.3 mpg for the 1 3/4 tanks of fuel I used driving between 70 and 82 mph. It was about 99% freeway driving.

My commute is 78 miles each way. I can easily average 27-29 on that drive because of the rather flat terrain. That being said, I'm still spending between 350 and 400/month on gas, which hurts when I think about it. The CT200H is looking more and more appealing...

I get 20 mpg on the city all the time and 30 mpg on the highway. I drove very easy on new Pirelli P7 plus tires at 36 psi. Car is an 05 with 140,000 miles.

Pretty much identical. 17 MPG overall after 24K miles (80% City), tracked on Fuelly.com. Best tank so far was 22.5 MPG. When on the freeway I've seen the computer report 30 MPG which, from experience, is .8-1.5 MPG higher than reality (still exceeds EPA highway rating). Not bad for a V8.

My gas mileage is permanently shocking. On the highway it will do 9.9L/100km if I drive it like a saint. It is currently my daily, and my workshop is only a few miles from my house so my current tank average is around 16L/100km. It was as high as 22L/100km for a while when I had a bit of a vacuum leak.

My best mileage was this summer, coming out of the mountains of New Mexico. Started near the Colorado border town of Pagosa Springs, and by Amarillo, Texas I had averaged 30.5. The high altitude helped with the first part of the trip, and probably had a good 30-40 mph tailwind when I hit the flatlands. Average for the whole trip back to Houston, was 26.6.
I just put a set of Contenentals high performance on it and my around town mileage is in the tank, 14-14.5. I dropped a mile or two on the highway as well, now at 25. I may go back to the Michelin’s after these are toast.

I get 16-19 mpg the area I live in is just super hilly not a lot of straight roads. The ls430 goes up hills with ease though car is such a joy to drive.

Averaged 20.4 MPG for combined highway and local driving. Perhaps over a little over 50% highway this tank. Milage 123,460 for 2001 LS430.
404 miles driven with 62 miles range remaining. 19.765 gallons.

I just finished a four week 4,400 mile road trip (reset my avg mpg before I left) and averaged 25.4 overall with approximately 85% of that highway miles (maybe 1200 miles of it up in the mountains). Highest full tank average on flat roads was about 27.6 mpg on mostly flat interstate at 70-75 mph. I drove that same basic stretch from SE Colorado to Texas and averaged a crazy 30.4 mpg (however much of that drive from higher elevation and going downhill). Noticed mpg seemed to decrease by 1-1.5 mpg at sea level elevation. The LS is a great road trip car. Super smooth, quiet, safe, and always plenty of power to spare even when climbing serious grades, and passing slower vehicles. HVAC in the car is amazing, very quiet cabin, AC or heat on automatic, always keeping us comfortable in any outside condition.

I ran a mix of premium and regular fuel tank fills depending on anticipated driving conditions. Up in th emountains ran Premium exclusively. On low flat easy interstate driving I used regular grade for a few tanks. Noticed maybe 1-2mpg increase using premium grade although hard to tell because of changing road conditions.

Question

Tracking 128 fill ups spanning 31K miles on my 2005 LS430:
(manual calculation (I use Fuelly) is very close to automatic averages on the dash, if I reset tank/trip averages on the dash, etc)

Worst (between fill ups) : 12.5mpg
Best: 24.5mpg (about 250 miles, mostly freeway)
Average I usually get is around 16.5mpg. (I do mostly short city driving)

Would replacing my 14 year old iridium plugs (with 120K miles on them) improve mpg noticeably?

I know my car very well by now (got it Oct. 2016).

For my commute I get 19.x, sometimes at the cusp of 20.0.

This is key. It's stop and go plus highway. My average mph tends to be 24 mph. On all calls, imho this is a qualifier.

On pure highway, I did it again went about 65 miles straight, it kisses 28. Anything unfavorable it cannot maintain 28. But will never be under 26.

That's why I'm puzzled by the epa highway of 23.

I sometimes wonder that if a person had a good understanding of calculus if mpg would be more obvious on how it works (I'm thinking of the threads from the past--"Car gets 14 mpg! Please help!"
