Navigation Display Quality

You'd think with all the computers built into these cars that Toyota could manage a flash update to the ROMs like we get for our home/laptop computers and digital cameras. I'd sure pay for an upgrade to the Gen 5 graphics. It's embarrassing to look at that big ugly Gen 4 display beside a 4.2" Garmin 680 which is too small but gorgeous.
To achieve gen 5 graphics, you need a better graphics card, LCD screen, etc.
Keep in mind that the screens adn hardware was developed in 99-00, or even before, to be ready for the 2001 release date. Screens didn't look too hot back then.

Gen 3. would have been made in 99-00, but Gen 4. was a hardware/software upgrade, which had a bigger screen but lacked graphic improvement. I haven't seen a Gen 2., but 2 people have noted that their Gen 2. was older and smaller screen but was crisper and didn't have this jagged edge look to the graphics.
Anti-Aliasing would cure more of our woes and is likely something the system could do, but since it can be CPU intensive, it has likely been disabled to keep the map motion and updates fast.
Maybe we will get lucky and a bored Denso engineer will tell us how to fix it.
