Default Navigation DVD

Just received a card from Lexus saying the Navigation is $265 MSRP. Check on the http://owners.lexus.com then to ManageVehicle>NavigationMapfeedback, sure enough the price is $265 for my 04 LS430.

How come our vendors here selling it more than MSPR? shouldn't it be cheaper?

Any price over $50.00 is a rip-off. A DVD costs about $2.00 to produce in quantity. Granted they had to buy new maps for those updated DVD's but when they have many thousands of customers then they should be able to make money on quantity. As it is now, I won't buy that DVD or any others for 5 years or so.

It's not the cost of the DVD, it's what's on it. Yea I received that card in the mail last week too.

So has anyone out there bitten on this apple yet? What do you get for that $265?

I got the card too but it doesn't give any indication of what the updated information is on the DVD. I live way up North and just can't see spending that amount unless there is some really new information that knocks my socks off.

I'm probably not going to get the update anytime soon. I don't necessarily need it. But I did notice that when I try to input some address into the navi, it will not register (I guess those addresses were post-2004 [which is the year of my LS]).

The rebate only up to version 06.1, not version 07.1, and have to purchase before 1 Jan 08. So for $260 plus shipping might be less than the dealer at $265 plus tax. I like to see a little cheaper. Las Vegas is expanding so quickly that many addresses does not register on my current DVD

The price of the DVD is just that: It doesn't include installation which in the case of an ES is simply inserting the DVD behind the Navi screen. In the case of the LS, you have to "take the trunk apart." About 8 or 9 clips have to be removed and the DVD unit unscrewed and pulled up out of it's hidey-hole. It's not a BIG thing, but I can imagine broken clips, lost clips, lost screws, etc. compared to other Lexus-model installations.

My dealer wants $55 for installing the DVD and I'll bet they want to keep the old DVD, too. That's $320+tax they're talking. I think I'll take my chances with the clips and screws. BTW, a previous dealer once gave me a brand new DVD, installed at ZERO charge so the DVDs can't cost the dealers too much.

There is another thread below started by someone who went for a "free" Bit-Torrent download from a Vietnamese site. Although the site has lots of "Great, no problems" comments, the downloaded DVD screwed up his Navi so it won't take either the downloaded DVD or the original OEM DVD.

Ouch!
I can figured out how to take the LS 430 Navigation DVD out since I already bought the service manuals

If you live where isn't much new roads/housing being build then don't bother to get an update. You only needed the update disc is when you visit a new city with a lot new roads being build the last 5 years. New roads that show up on the navigation usually take anywhere form 2-3 yrs after complete. Around my house where I live in Las Vegas, there are few roads that completed a few years already and my 2007 car, bought early in 07, meaning it has the 06 navigation version still doesn't show.

The map maker gather information for update once a year around Sep/Oct; therefore, the new info for the navigation DVD won't be available until 6 months later at the very least. A 7.1 Navigation DVD would consist of only 2006 update if it were produce during the summer of 2007 on.
