The mirrors in my '02 mirrors stopped folding after four years so I applied WD-40 followed by an application of a thin oil. This solved the problem for about a year and a half. When I had the car serviced two months ago, the battery was diagnosed as being weak so it was replaced and now the mirrors fold like when the car was new.

Applied the WD-40 into the joint where the mirror swivels then "exercised" the mirror several times. BTW, the passenger side mirror folded normally, it was only an issue with the left side mirror.
