I am looking to buy an LS430. I currently have an 02 Q45 and have heard that LS has a far superior ride quality. And I prefer ride over handling. Both cars are equally equipped and in the same price range.
For 04 with 78k, price is 25 grand, for 02 with 20k its 26 grand.
Do you think 78k miles ares too high to provide the same/close ride as new?

You guys are lucky. Prices in USA are lot less than canada. Dealer here are asking 45 grand for 04 with low mileage.
May be I should export one from USA as dollar is on par now.

For me it would depend on the condition and service history of the cars. A 20k poorly serviced car is no better than a 78k mile car with all the service records showing everything done.
A warranty would somewhat negate the condition issues. I'd definitely go with the one that had the warranty.
All things being equal as for warranty, quality and condition, I'd take the newer car.
On the opposte side, if both have poor service histories and no warranty, definitely the lower mileaged car.

If the car is well maintained. How much ride quality will deterioate with 78K miles, 10%, 20% or ...
I am trying to see the effect of high mileage on ride quality

Essentially none if everything is in very good condition, but that's a big 'if'. 78K miles over frost heaves and pot holes might take a toll, whereas 78K miles here on our billiard-table-smooth roads (North Florida) still feels like new. It all depends upon the history of the individual car.

Thanks for your offer.
I considered importing from USA but in case of LS430 its not worth it as price here is not that bad for a used one.
If you import you have to pay 6.1% duty plus 5%GST and 8%PST.
If you buy here you only pay 5%GST and 8%PST on (your car price minus your trade in value).
So for a car that's 27k in Canada and 24k in USA its about the same price.
