one thing comes to mind "LOL" Honestly only a hater would even try you out like that. Its 2 totally different ball games a underpowered wanna b sports car or a true luxury vehicle that has nothing to prove about its speed.

The old Z32 is a sure win, especially if it doesn't run

The new Civic Si though, I am not so sure, they are quicker then you think, even with the lack of torque. Remember the Civic is 1200 lbs lighter. I think the Civic would be a REALLY close race.

First off, I have a 300ZX '86 model (turbo). Its a great car. I love that little thing with a passion. However, I am the first to admit that it isn't the fastest car anymore. Believe me, it still has power, and I've rebuilt the engine and tranny in it, so its not so "old" anymore. But I've also driven the LS, and I think the LS could take the 300ZX. But it would be close. At least, I'd like to think my car could hold its own.

Your 86' turbo is quite a bit quicker then a 90' non-turbo.

Your turbo is probably as fast as a LS430.

Sounds like you are young, you might not know the following:

For the race:

Remove everything in your car that is easy to take out...floor mats, trunk mats, spare tire, jack, tools.......make sure the gas tank is empty, make sure power mode is on, lower the rear tire pressure to 25 psi for extra off the line traction, turn off the AC.

All those heavy thick floor mats, 22 gallons big gas tank, full size spare....probably add up to 100+ lbs, it makes a noticeable difference in a drag race.

Good luck and have fun smoking them!

3.0L V6/4-speeds vs. 4.3L V8/5-speeds, similar weight, you got nothing to worry about, I just want you to smoke them hard.

Make sure you report back the result!

I'd probably still loose just cause I'm not a great drag driver. But thanks for the confidence boost!

If he is driving a stock NON Turbo 300zx then REGARDLESS of what he says or thinks he will lose. Here are the specs of what the BRAND NEW 300ZX Non-Turbos performance were. I included the 2+2 incase that's what he owns even though it was made in 1991.

1990 Nissan 300ZX: 0-60: 7.1 Qtr Mile: 15.5
1991 Nissan 300ZX 2+2: 0-60: 7.5 Qtr Mile: 15.9

Remember, this is assuming he is a good enough drive to get the peak performance out of his car (which, even then, generally takes multiple passes).

Now, here are you LS430 numbers

2001 LS430: 0-60: 6.23 Qtr Mile: 14.9

Given the fact it is an automatic, you shouldn't have to try as hard to win.

Anyways, I wouldn't race that guy just out of ethics.

Let's look into this some more:

Nissan are known to be not long lasting cars, they deteriorate fast. So a 18 years old Nissan driven by a 17 years old high school kid who can barely drive a stick. Stock # is 15.5, I say this particular car probably do 17.5 driven by this guy on the street.

For a 01' LS430, it probably still perform as new, might be even quicker then new since it is broken in. It is an auto so it doesn't require any skills to drag race it, and the 14.9 is a very conservative # claimed by Lexus. Hell, I say this LS probably would do 14.6~14.8 on the street.

yup, the LS would OWNED the Z hard.
