Gas theft, anybody?
After visiting a casino in Atlantic City yesterday, I returned to my car (04 LS430) in the parking garage to find my gas filler door open, and my gas cap hanging by the tether. The car was still locked and everything looked ok, so I drove off and so far, so good. I still had the same amount of gas that I had when I parked. Maybe something scared the would-be perp away while he was in the act, or maybe something was put in my tank, but it runs ok so far.
It's disturbing, though, and I can't figure out how they opened the filler door from outside the car. I tried using a credit card, etc., and I can't do it. Anyhow, with the price of gas what it is, I guess people with all makes may be seeing more stuff like this going on ........
(Oh, and I lost $$ in the casino, naturally.)

my son works weekends at a gas mart and he says there are a lot more drive offs without paying,, they now are taking licenses numbers of most all cars if they are not paying on credit,, if someone drives off the just call the local police and report the license number and dollar amount stolen,,
as for my car or any others, havenot heard of raids on the personal cary yet,,

A couple of weeks ago some one stole the gas out of couple of vehicles in San Jose CA. They polked holes in the gas tank & drained the gas in to a bucket. The gas they stole was miner compaired to the cost of replacing the gas tanks! I park my LS430 in the garage & leave my Suburban in the driveway. The Suburban has a 44 gal gas tank, which may be tempting to some one if they knew how much gas it has in it, I guess they would need several buckets to get it all. I did install a motion light on the garage a couple of weeks ago hoping that might stop some one. I live about 50 miles north of San Jose, but I would think there will be more gas being taken as prices keep going higher.

Yup - Absolutely sure cap was on and filler door closed when car was parked. (Actually, wouldn't I have gotten a "Check Engine" light after driving w/o gas cap being on ?) But, yes, cap was on and door closed.
