Default Help! Remote no longer unlocks the car

So I let my brother borrow my car for a couple of days. When he gives it back, he tells me that the remote doesnt function anymore. The light on the remote come on when you press it and the battery was changed on it a couple months ago. Furthermore, the power door locks do not work unless the car is on. And because the remote cant lock the car, the security system wont come on. Today when I went to the start the car, I find that the battery is completely dead. I have an appointment with my mechanic on Monday.

Can anyone tell me what is going on? It is soooo embarrassing to have to use the key to unlock an $80k car.

First thing is to change the batteries again. Cheapest and fastest way. Maybe your brother sat on the remote and was constantly pushing against it turn it on? Even though it lights up doesn't mean it has enough transmitting power.

The remote battery dying doesn't explain why the power locks, security, and entry lights do not function unless the car is on.

Also, I tried taking the car battery off overnight to "soft reset" the car but nothing has changed.

This worked for me but I have an LS430 (2001)
1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.
2. Insert existing master key into ignition.
3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.
4. Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and
remove key.
5. Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.
6. Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.
7. After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.
8. Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.

Good luck

maybe check your fuses to see their ok? i blew a dome fuse and it disabled my power locks, remote, mirror controls, radio, and kept resetting my dash and clock.

Default Resolved!

took it to my trusty mechanic, Son at Dynamic Auto, and he reset the security system. Everything works fine and it wasn't anyone's fault, so I'm happy.
