nav question
Hey guys new here to this forum!!
I have done some reading on the forum but didn't see any similar threads so I figured I would ask here.
I have a 2004 LS430 and I was hoping to upgrade my navigation package to the newer ones that have the traffic info as well. Any chance of this happening?
Thanks

No subscription to traffic available for our year LS. Best bet if you have a smartphone/Blackberry/etc is to use Google Maps then have it show traffic. Works in most major cities and its free.

First of all, the "traffic function" of any current NAV or handheld is over-rated because it relies basically on reported traffic jams that come over the normal radio air-waves. So, as we know, not EVERY traffic jam there is is communicated. When I use to commute from NY to NJ and vice versa, some of the worse jams were "normal" jams that never get reported, and then the jams reported, who knows where those were.
Secondly, the services are only available in major metropolises, like NY, Boston, St. Louis, L.A., etc. with some other secondary cities. So, it's not like if you traveled from NY to LA that you will have service throughout the U.S.A.
I had it free for three months with my Nuvi and I didn't find it useful enough for me (and I live in NY and commute) to continue the service.

I also have a portable Nav unit (Navigon) with this feature and have found it to be pretty useless. While it sounds pretty neat, I've found that the info is usually several hours old and therefore of limited use.

so my dream would be to have a brand new aftermarket or lex nav screen and os interface type thing which looses none of the stock control abilities from the cars functions. is this possible??
