I just got a call from Lexus and they want to charge me nearly $800 for fixing the rear door actuator (the door won't close) on my 2004 LS430 Ultra.
I'm appalled. This is ridiculous.
They say the "part" itself is $599.
Any recommendations? Can I just order an OEM one for like $150 and do it myself?
I hate pissing money away on things I don't need to...

Unfortunately not. I did some research and the cheapest I could get the part for was $430 and that didn't include shipping. The dealership cut the price a bit and it's going to come out ot $650 installed. ![Frown](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
The bad thing about this is I have guests in this weekend (business) and I need my car, so in the end, it's best if I just have them fix it while it's in.
*sigh*

LOL the Lexus dealer just called and told me the need the whole assembly to fix the problem (not just the actuator) and the part is ~$900. However, because I've done business with them for awhile now, they're going to keep the same cost. I've looked up both part numbers, and the part they need to fix the issue is: 69050-50061
When I go in to pick the car up on Tuesday they're going to give me details on what went wrong.

Well they said the problem went beyond the actuator. I'm going to get the full story on Tuesday or Wednesday when I pick the car up. It's one of those things where I don't have the luxury of waiting for a part; I can't even drive my car with this issue. So I have a "free" loaner from the dealer, and the part they're installing is roughly the cost they're charging me for labor and part, so in the end, I think I'm doing OK.
I've always had a good experience with Lexus of Chandler (AZ) and the particular mechanic I've worked with for over a year.
I'm just frustrated over the cost of the part itself. Owell... Guess every once and awhile I gotta pay for having the best luxury sedan in the world...

They are telling the truth. The actuator alone is sold through Carson Lexus/Toyota for $450.37. If it needs the whole assembly as you listed under part# 69050 then that is $680.91. These prices are already discounted off of the list price. Basically what it means is, you have an Ultra and will pay to have the extra gadgets fixed.
This part and the adjustable suspension were the main reasons I passed on a UL model when I bought mine.
Sorry to hear of the breakdown, hope you can re-cover from it.

I had the same problem on my 02 LS only mine had acted up previous times and always corrected it's self , It would just push back from latching and no amout of fooling with the latch mech would correct it, finally took it back to the GM dealer I bought it from and they fixed it saying it was bent linkage no parts required cost a hundred bucks, I had to hold the door closed for 140 miles while my wife drove rear driverside door.
