Who makes a good riding sport tire for 05 ultra that you are happy with. ie Michelin, Goodyear, Dunlop, Firestone, Bridgestone, or Nitto.(245/45zr18) Thanks Joe

I did some research on TireRack.com and found that the Bridgestone RE960 Pole Position tires are top ranked and very quiet, long lasting and performs well. I was on a national back order for the 245/45/18 series and waited over 3 months for them before I canceled and decided to buy some 19" rims. Unfortunately, Bridgestone don't make it in the 19" size so I went with the Bridgestone RE050A. It also has a rim guard protection which I hope helps with the curbage. Can't wait to get those in. Hope this help. Try researching on TireRack.com http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp and see what others are saying in the review section on each tire and brands. You can order them direct from your local Firestone dealer and the price I was quoted was 20% cheaper due a sale. Ask for the specials and if you have a good salesman, sometimes they will honor the last sale prices. I hope this helps.

When I purchased my LS430 it had Pirelli Snowsport 240 tires on the 18" rims. These are very soft and nice riding tires, but awfully noisy at their end of life stage.
I replaced these with the RE960 tires based on Tirerack and DiscountTire recommendations. Well... it's definitely a sport tire. You'll feel every crack in the road with these tires and you do get plenty of precision. The downside is that you'll never get a smooth ride from these. They ride hard, and feel like the sidewall is very stiff. PSI changes didn't help - stiff, stiff tires. Coming from the Snowsports it was a real shock. Feels like riding on rocks at times.
So I had the RE960s removed and I'm currently on DiscountTire's Yoko YK-520's. They do ride smooth, but also have some road feel to them. A nice compromise for me, but might not be what suits others.
Here is what an 08 GS owner thought of the RE960s.

I replaced the Dunlops that came on the car with Michelin Primacy MXV4
245/45R 18",, Costco had to order them but the full set for everything was $960,, other local tire stores ranged from $1085 to $1243,, what a spread,,
they ride better and quieter than the Dunlops,, would certainly buy them again,, I'm not an agressive driver,,
