Did my LS430 meet CPO standard?
I picked up a 2005 LS430 as a CPO yesterday. However, I'm wondering if it met the standard to be certified as a CPO. If not, what is my option and who do I appeal to?
I thought I was buying a CPO, but I’m not sure if this is a CPO for the following reasons:
· Bottom end of driver’s door had a paint scrapped off with metal exposed. I had to ask the salesman to fix it.
· Sold me a car with expired registration tag (June 2008). I’m driving with an expired tag, and police can pull me over for this reason.
· I did not get the flat key (credit card sized). Since I have the original license plate, the original owner or anyone with the flat key who recognizes the car may access the car and steal its content or steal the car.
· Car pulls to the right – needs a wheel alignment.
· Did not get the 161-point check list as requested.
· Lexus Certified Pre-Owned CERTIFICATE is incomplete: Final Preparation Checklist, and Sales Delivery Checklist are not completed.
· Lexus Certified Pre-Owned CERTIFICATE is signed by a Diagnostic Specialist only. It is missing following signatures: Service Manager, Manager – Pre-Owned Sales, General Manager, Sales Representative.
· Salesman did not review car’s features with me.
What do you guys think? Do you think this is reason enough to request to replace this car with a genuine CPO, or for a monetary compensation? If monetary compensation, how much?
TIA.

I thought I was buying a CPO, but I’m not sure if this is a CPO for the following reasons:

It should be fixed before its sold.
· Sold me a car with expired registration tag (June 2008). I’m driving with an expired tag, and police can pull me over for this reason.
License tab is your responsibility just like a new car.
· I did not get the flat key (credit card sized). Since I have the original license plate, the original owner or anyone with the flat key who recognizes the car may access the car and steal its content or steal the car.
You should get all sets of keys as part of CPO.
· Car pulls to the right – needs a wheel alignment.
They should fix that.
· Did not get the 161-point check list as requested.
That is part of the CPO check list. It should be completed.
With a Lexus CPO, you should also get a certificate for the first oil change free of charge.
· Salesman did not review car’s features with me.
That's the salesman fault.

Just ask them to fix all the issues, which should be fairly quick and easy for them to do and should take about a day. Just ask for a loaner while they do it or an additional free oil change. Also, make sure you get tires and brakes that up to the specification. If they are below a certain measurement, they are required to change those items out as part of the CPO process. You should also have a new set of carpeted mats.
TIA.

I'm not sure what the situation is here, did you see the car and decide you wanted it as a CPO, or did they present it to you as a CPO? Car salesmen will do whatever it takes to make a sell sometimes and that's the way this seems. There is no way it should have the old tag on any vehicle once it's traded in, you should have a dealer drive-out tag on it currently. The CPO inspection is held to very high standards and they obviously skipped many steps in it if they can't even take off the old tag! I'm not sure about Cali, but here in Ga it's about a 6x higher fine to drive with an expired tag than it is to have NO tag! As far as the paperwork, it's not a huge issue IMO, the missing card key is, due to the nature of the security system. There are normally standards on the minimum # of keys supplied with a CPO vehicle. My advice is to know what the CPO is and go over all of it with the sales manager, let them explain why you were sold a CPO that clearly does not meet the standard! I'd also place a call to Lexus and certainly forward a copy of the incomplete inspection forms IF the dealer does not respond appropriately.
If there is a grace period there on transactions I'd put it to use if I were you in this case. Ga law gives 72 hours to back out of vehicle purchases, Cali probably has something of that nature, look into it.
