Default 03 LS430 Remote Key Effective Distance?

I read in the manual that the key is only effective within 3 feet of the car, is that true? Is there any way to remedy this problem? I thought it may have been a faulty battery on the transponder, but even after putting in a new battery, the remote will only work if I am standing within 3 ft of the driver's side door.

Any help?

Thanks

The key range on my '02 is about 30 feet.
Other than for security, I can't think of any reason why Lexus would limit the range to 3 feet.
Any one??

There is a small antenna within the remote, and another within the car. So im guessing either one of the two might be at fault here. Try replacing the remote first, and if it doesnt work, might have to open up the keyless remote controller within the car. Im not sure where it is on the LS.

Default Key Range

Received this information recently. Seem's there's a device that can record the signal sent from the key to the vehicle and then subsequently used to unlock the vehicle. The suggestion is to use your door lock to lock the car's doors when you leave the vehicle and not the key device. Could be one reason for the close proximity (3ft) to the car.

Range should be much greater than 3 feet with a fresh battery in the remote. If the distance is too far, however, the car will re-lock itself before you get to it. I think the timing is about 20 seconds of no activity after unlocking before the doors re-lock. This feature is there for somone who accidentily unlocks their car when putting the key in their purse or pnts pocket.

My '03 range is probably 20 or 30 feet. But it's been getting worse (and I like to use it to roll down all the windows for those hot days before I get to the car which requires some range). Need to replace the battery, I think.

I realize that, what I was saying is that what you read about the effective range being 3 feet was in regards to the smart access. So it does not apply to your car.
