20"s on a LS430??
Hi there. I recently purchased a 01 ls430 in mint condition and am thinking of putting 20 inch wheels on it. I know the ride quality won't be the same, but I don't have any idea if there are any problems associated with going to the larger wheels. If anyone has some experience with the 20's please let me know your thoughts. I would appreciate any input you might offer including what tires you chose and how much it affected the ride, braking...etc. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Welcome to Club Lexus and congrats on your new car.
No one rides on 20's that would be insane Just kidding. Many of us are on 20's and if you read through some of the past threads there are many discussion on it. Depending on where the type of cars you had before, ride quality will suffer a bit. But that will depend on if you had a sports car before and are used to a firm ride, etc.
When purchasing the wheels, watch for the front clearance as the LS has big brake calipers to clear so many wheels will not fit. You may want to enlist the help of several vendors here who are very helpful with any questions you may have.

Thanks for the reply David. I have been searching for twenty threads with not a lot of luck so far. Thanks for responding. I'm really new here. Well known over at clubarmada.com though and hoping to be welcome here too!

I'm rolling on 20's and really don't miss the stock 18' wheels. Airtime gave some great advice, be sure to do your and pick what you think looks best. Here some new pics I took of my whip on 20's...

response on 20's
First, welcome to CL.
I have found that going 20's is the norm on the LS430 for the majority of folks mod'ing their ride. Some go 19's because of the concern about ride quality, but as pointed out, it all depends on what you are use to. Ride will no doubt change regardless.
As for fitment, offset is key, and all depends on how aggressive you want to go. The more conservative you go, the less likely you will have to deal with possible rubbing issues.
The general thinking is that 20's are the largest recommended size, going bigger will most likely require fender mods, or for most folks (incl. myself) it would just look too big for the car. 22's on an LS460 look just right though.
I personally plan to go with 20X9 and 20X10's front/rear respectively and will be running 245/45/20 and 275/40/20. I forgot what offsets I plan to go with, and don't have my specs readily handy. But, with the offsets I plan to go with, I may have to shave my rear fender lip slightly. I am told it will be close so we'll see.
Good luck on your decision.

Currently I ride on 20 x 8.5 (+ 40) on the front and a 20 x 9.5 (+ 35) in the rear. My tire size is 235/35-20 and 245/35-20.
I have Tein CS and JP SS kit installed. (Not cranked all the way down).
Regular driving I have no problems. Ride quality and braking is okay with this setup and I'm able to travel over bumps and metal plates on the road without worrying about damaging anything. Only problem I have is while going up a steep driveway and and angle with the wheels fully turned, my tire rubs against the fender. Only way for me to avoid this is take wider turns or avoid the driveway.
