General Question (sell LS for a '06 GS?)
#5
Nope, the GS does not have the room or looks a LS has. It is nice having a newer car, but I would rather my 2001 LS UL than a brand new Toyota Avalon. New is nice, but depending on what new car it is, things may just not stack up against your old car.

Avalon? :o
For my 2 cents worth, the '04-06 LS430 is right now the best buy for the money, against new or old cars at $30K.
My wife and I were ready to put money down on a new '08 GS350AWD, but just before we pulled the trigger, we saw an ad for a '03 LS430 UL with 31K for $30K. We were like "WHAT THE???" is that correct? We never thought of purchasing used/CPO because it just never crossed our minds, but at the same time, we could not afford a new LS430 (or LS460). When we looked into it and saw that the LS430 were all floating around $30-34K for near-new conditions and low mileage. Our minds just went away from the GS350.
New is fine and always "better" in that you're the original owner, but the current GS just doesn't look or feel luxurious enough inside. The lack of wood trim across the dash on the passenger side (as well as on the ES350) makes the dash look too "BIG" and plain with all that rubber. The BIG LOOK is even worse on the ES350 now.
In the original posters case, he/she is not even comparing a used LS430 to a new GS430. It's old to old... if both used... LS430 wins easily. Only way it's even a contest is if the LS430 is base model with no NAV, and GS430 is loaded, then the GS might win on the goodies factor.

I have a gs400 right now and am looking at selling it and 'upgrading' to the ls430 ul so i have been doing a lot of soul searching of my own to figure out what the pros and cons are going to be. the things that i have come up with thus far are that the gs is a little more 'spirited' if you will in its driving abilities. the gs is a little sportier and probably funner to drive on winding roads but for a commute or just a calm daily driver the LS takes the cake. I think the only things I will miss with my gs is the racer/ ricer appeal, the zippy in and out of traffic speed, all the torque, and well its just a better vehicle to be driving if you were in a getaway scene than the LS430 (not sure about the ls460). But I feel that at this stage in 'my life' its time for 'me' to make the switch to the more reserved LS.
If 'you' need a little more spice in your life than maybe moving to a GS from an LS is for you. But if your not planning on actually driving the GS a little hard at times than i would think it would be almost pointless to switch from an LS to a GS. who knows maybe i will get bored after a few years of driving an LS and then I would probably have to pick up a 911 or something like someone mentioned on here earlier. good luck!
p.s. that also seems like kind of a lot of miles for a 2 year old vehicle (38k).

well, if you wanna be a medium dawg instead of a big dawg then go ahead and do the swap....LOL...all jokes aside...well both the cars have their pluses and minuses...the question is do you want luxury or sport ride? you decide ...if you are used to the comfy ride of the LS it is going to be hard for you adapt to the ride of the GS. Two different class of cars!!

frotiss,
I decided on the 05' LS430 UL against a 06' GS430 7 months ago, and never regretted my decision.
I think it comes down to whether you want plush luxury or sporty, both cars has one or the other.
The newer electronics in the GS is REALLY nice, and it is fun to scoot around in it. But it doesn't remotely come close in luxury and quietness of the LS.

I use to think my RX300 was pretty quiet, for a large vehicle on the road. It was more quiet than my Accord, Integra, or Highlander (ugly sister car) combined. Then I drove my LS for a whole week and today when I drove my RX again, I thought one of the window was slightly open. IT WAS SO LOUD !!!! I was so spoiled by the LS, I didn't even realize it.
I might never drive the poor RX again... ha ha.
