Default Back up camera?

Has anyone added the back up camera on the 01 LS yet? I have the 2001 LS430 and not sure if it comes with this model?

it came with 04+

i was going to do it but seemed like too much of a hassle and not something i see myself doing in the near future... easier to just sell and get an 04+ ( if the budget is right)

That was one reason I was looking into the '04-'06 rather than '01-'03. Also, you don't think it's useful when you DON'T have it, but once you do and use it, you think "wow, that's pretty good feature" or "man, how did I live without this?" The camera, better than the audible parking assist, does help with getting real close to the car behind you when you're parking. The audible just beeps and goes "solid beep" when you're within say 6-12", but with the camera, you know exactly when you're about to hit.

Anyway, back to the original question of if anyone has installed the camera on an earlier LS430. Does the backup camera even work the older version (3) NAV system?

Anyway, good luck either way.

He used the trunk keyhole for camera, and somehow linked it to his stock NAVI, but since he sold the car, I don't know exactly how he did it.

I don't think it can be added to a 2001 through the factory navigation. At least, that is what I was told because I wanted to do the same. There are aftermarket units but if it doesn't connect to the factory navigation then you have to have a separate screen for the backup camera which wasn't too appealing to me. If you find out that an aftermarket unit can be hooked into the 2001 LS with navigation, let me know. Thanks.

Couldn't you use the VAIS interface to hook the aftermarket camera to the OEM Nav. unit? This way you're not using the additional monitor with the backup camera. Just a thought..

Has anyone actually done that? I'm too hoping to add a parking camera to my 01 LS.

There are reverse image cameras you can buy that are incorporated into a license plate frame.

that will give you the input for the camera. hooks into the nav unit in the trunk. a camera is still needed. but you have lots of options out there for cameras.
