I wouldn't say that now... I went from an 2001 LS to 2000 A6 4.2
The funny thing is that I want to go back to an Ls430, this time a 2004 model. I've never been so relaxed driving in an LS. It was maintenance free for the 2 years I had it. Nav was great and so quiet on the highway!! My friend wanted the car badly so I sold it to him. It was reliable during his ownership.
The Audi scares me. I had the transmission go on me. "Luckily" I got someone to do it for $4000 when the dealer quoted $7K. It has a timing belt and if it snaps while driving, although rare, you'd need a whole new engine. Luckily I educated myself on the Audi forums so I could diagnose and do alot of stuff on my own, but it would have been a nightmare for someone that's not mechanically inclined. I think the check engine light came on 10-15 times for the Audi vs 0 times in the LS.
If everything goes as planned I should have it sold by tomorrow. Won't go for another Ls right away. My goal is to find an 2004-05, local with Nav and sport wheels under $19K with less than 40-50K miles. Must have black interior in either dark gray, 1st choice, Blue, Black or silver. So it has to be the deal of the century

My friend's brother has an 06 or 07 A6 and tranny went out on him around 30k(?). Thankfully it was replaced under warranty.
I expect that from GM and electricals from German cars.
As much as I like the A8, no thanks
Welcome GrandpaJ5...........are you really a Grandpa?

No time...
The A6 has much more character as far as looks and sound. It has a nice Euro V8 growl, equal performance to the LS but handles/maneuvers far better. The A6 4.2 looks timeless where as my 2001 Lexus LS shows its age. I had 5 spoke LS Sport 18's on mine which freshened up the look of my 2001 Ls430 ...
From your experience, it seems it was timeless meaning you had less time with it than the mechanics...
