I just put some Michelin Primacy's on 245 45 18 and they were rated #1 by consumers on TireRack. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...ireSearch=true

Very quiet, go with those. Expensive but worth it.
Sear's has a great special on them this week. Free mount and balance. Rotation and balance also free for the lifetime of car.
$227 a piece for that size.

I've had great success with the Pilot Sport A/S's from Michelin.

another vote for the Michelin Primacy's,, even the wife commented about how much quieter and nicer they rode than the Dunlops that came on the car,, only hope I can get the 60K miles out of them they are suppose to offer,,

Derry

edit,, I purchased my tires at Costco for the best pricing,, we have a very friendly store that really works with their customers,,

Hands down Primacy's by Michelin are the best tire I have ever owned on a car. This is my first time using them. I got them in October 2008 and can't say how much quieter they are than my Goodyears I had on before them and the Dunlops before them. I hear barely any tire noise at all depending on road surface and with them traction wise feels like the Primacy's stick to the ground.

This is the first time I have ever felt like giving a thumbs up to any tire and Primacy's have earned my respect from a hard critic of quality! They are worth every penny I spent at Sears.

We now use the Tire Rack as our primary source of tire info. They do tests on their own testing ground and also have a "report" in the user summaries that total up the road miles and the customers experience with the tires.
We like the idea of using all season tires, preferably ultra high performance all-season. This kind of tire has only recently been made available as their technology increases. With all-season tires, it seems we give up a bit of noise before. I use all-season tires on both my and my wifes cars and have for many years now. We live in the Southeast US so we don't need snow tires, but can't get summer only tires because they suck in the rain. Up north, all-season might be a good idea too, except for the times you have to change to snow tires.
Out west, for desert areas, you might get away with the ultra performance summer tires since you don't have to deal with rain very often. However, if you travel anywhere where there is rain routinely, you'd be in trouble, literally.
Maybe the newest versions are not noisier anymore. Again, the tire noise isn't a lot, but it is noticeable. Maybe it won't be in the LS.
