Lil, that's good advice you have there. We do the towel/scent. Before bringing her home, my wife took a towel and rubbed both her parents with it, then put it into the carrier. My wife was in her car that has cloth seats (I wish the LS had cloth seats <sigh>.) Strapping the carrier in was no problem (Integra GS-R.)

We don't have that small a carrier. We have a carrier that we used with a regular Daschund (weenie dog) that gave room to fully turn around in if she wanted to. I'd guess this carrier is about a foot high and a foot wide.

Hadn't thought about being able to strap it down while in the trunk. This could be a problem. Are the mount points for the cargo net strong at all? This project may have to be cancelled after all <sigh again.> Thanks for the thoughts, all.

The cargo net hook is not that strong, depending on the weight that is pulling on it. My left one broke when I had a filled 5 gallon water container inside the cargo net.

There are 4 metal hooks on the trunk mat regions that are alot stronger.

 

so slightly relevant, i drove from CO to DC (about 30 hours behind the wheel) with an adult cat in a mid size carrier in the back passenger side seat. like someone else mentioned i just put down some thick **** towels on like every side of the cage except the front then i slid the passenger seat back until it held the carrier firmly in place (this was in a gs400 so it may be easier to have the back of the front seat touching the front of the carrier). it didn't scratch the leather but did leave a couple of impressions that took a few detailings and massagings to get to come out. i would have put the cat in the trunk if i had a passthrough and a more forgiving wife but i have neither of these so the cat rode in the cabin with us the whole way, meowing half the trip. good luck cuz it might not smell to nice after a few hours in the car, but my wife just says its practice for when we have a baby... hmmm.....

 

When we switched from a SUV to car, the first time we took our dog with us on a trip, we were packing the trunk and the dog got in as well. She really didn't understand the difference. We told her to get out, but i think she would have been fine with it. She just sits in the car and sleeps anyway

 

rofl at dog in the trunk....! Id never think about doing that to my lil buddy. Thats like putting your child in the trunk, people just dont do it.

 

With all due respect, it is absolutely not right that anyone, especially a dog owner, would consider doing this to an animal. I'm pretty sure that if a local ASPCA knew that someone was putting their dogs in their trunk, I guarantee that the person in question would be hearing from them.
