Smile What MPG do u get?

My parents own a 2002 ls430 and have not been getting 17-18 city mpg that a lexus should be getting. it has been avg at best 16 by babying it. For me i do not really care bc my car is a bmw 750il v12. avg city is 14-15. However is their a way to improve gas milage on this car? why do u guys think it is so low? Does the octane of the gas affect mpg?

Using the proper octane should improve the mileage. Are they using 91 oct (premium)? I average around 20mpg with the majority of that being city driving.

I only averaged 21 mpg on the highway this weekend. Apparently my parents have been using 87 in it from the get go (very confusing since they used a company gas card...). I do not mind paying more for premium, especially if it gets higher mpg, but should I just continue using 87 because that is the only octane that has been used?

For me thus far, on premium fuel, not a great split as I don't see the high highway numbers (some claimed 27mpg). I get 18 mpg local (20 miles/day avg. about 28 mph, with not too many lights) and 23 or so mpg on highway. On recent trip down to Orlando, I did do about 25 mpg doing 75 mph most of the way.

have run Costco regular in mine from day one,, do about 50/50 for highway and city and the MPG is always in the 20+ area,, on last trip to Florida (1000 mile run) with cruise set at 63mph highest reading I could get after a few hours at this steady speed was 28.8,,

I get about 20mpg with half freeway half city driving. My girlfriend borrowed my car for a trip from the Bay Area to Sac, and some driving around entertaining the girls and she returned it with a tank average of 24.5mpg.

My average of 20mpg is with mostly non aggressive driving, but can get a little spirited at times. I'm highly impressed with such a large car and a V8 under the hood. My V6 Sc'd Grand Prix was pulling about 18. I drove it in the red much more often though so that probably accounts for some of that.

<<<EDIT>>>
On premium gas only (91 octane with up to 10% ethanol in CA)

I get roughly 19 mpg with 95% city driving. I don't drive her hard (don't baby her but am not aggressive) and use 93 octane.

I get about 18-19 with mostly city driving 70 city /30 hwy. If I go 40 city /60 hwy I can get up to 20 to 21mpg on a tank of gas. The freeway and highways here on the island is not too long and it's hard to maintain 55-60mph for a long distance without some kind of slowdown. I am riding on 19 inch Wald rims and slightly wider tires in back. I think the rims weight are way heavier than my stock ones which is why I am getting mpg loss. When I was on the stock 16" rims, I was getting 1-2mpg more than now. I use Premium gas only.
