Default My Mark Levinson Sub Blew

So Im cruising up to Autozone to replace a tail light bulb and I put a CD in the changer and as soon as it plays "No Diggity" the Sub starts rattling and now it wont stop. I didn't play it very loud, I guess it's just done it's time and I guess I blew the sub?

I've never purchased an aftermarket sub because the stock systems in my previous car all have done the job. What do you all recommend?

Any help would be awesome.

CSS Trio8
http://creativesound.ca/pdf/CSS_TRIO8.pdf
It has a linear x-max of 28 mm (peak to peak)
It's Qts is .365, the designer said it can be used for free air use.
Impedance: 8 ohms
Price is about $80

Linear excursion is an indicator of how much distortion will occur...especially at low frequencies less than 40 Hz. The higher the linear excursion, the lower the potential distortion. The lower in frequency you go the more it is true. Thus this subwoofer has much lower distortion potential than the ML sub.

Not much power is required at low frequencies to get a woofer to move quite far at ~30 Hz!

I saw the rear sub on ebay looks like the same picture as above.
To quote my 18 year old son " Crank up the base dad the speakers are made for it".

My answer no speakers are made for the so called music that this generation listens to. I don't worry about my four children driving my car .... it's the stereo that I worry about

Hey right quick. Here in a couple hours I have a guy installing a JL audio sub. There is an 8inch and a 10 inch... which should I get? Is JL Audio a good sub?

You can't fit a 10" sub in the stock hole without cutting the rear deck.

great call, that jl audio sucks. if you turn the music up barely on a hip hop CD, the whole system cuts out. Bad install? Bad sub?

I might as well find me another Mark Lev, or seal my old one. I havent ever had this issue in my LS400... ever. I love Nakamichi.

I saw a ML rear sub on EBAY $600.00 but may be worth it.

It's probably because the stock sub is 12 ohm. The new sub is probably 4 ohm (maybe 8) and doesn't work right with the factory amp. You do not want to blow your factory amp.

ya guys running a aftermarket sub that doesn't match the 12 ohm impedance of the original oem sub will screw up your oem amp.

either get a used OEM levinson sub on ebay or spend about 250 to 300 bucks on a aftermarket amp and sub and throw it in the trunk while removing the levinson sub, this will allow for a port so the bass can enter into the cabin.

use a small box sub, about 0.5 to 0.6 cu fit seal box and call it a day.

I am wanting to add a sub with an aftermarket amp to mine as well. DO you have stock speakers? anyway was wandering if anyone done it, and do I need JL cleansweep? Or should i tap the line, after the deck, or right at the rear sub?

and is a jl 10w6 a free air sub?>
