Default Should a different tire change fuel consumption?

I recently put new tires on the LS. The OEM Bridgestones were on there. I replaced them with a high performance (W rated) BF Goodrich.

My average MPG has dropped since then. Maybe I haven't figured out my proper pressure setting yet.

Perhaps, the high performance tire, being stickier, has more rolling resistance, but I would never have thought that it would make a noticeable change in MPG.

Tires will affect mileage. As you stated, a high performance tire will have a higher "rolling resistance" (higher coefficient of friction) which would have a slight effect on mileage. More importantly, did you replace the originals with a tire of the exact same overall diameter? If the sidewall series went from a 60 to a 45 or 50 series then the overall tire could be smaller in diameter and significantly affect mileage.

Finally, perhaps the greatest factor is that the car handles better and you may be driving harder for greater enjoyment.

i think the final thought would be more correct for me: "perhaps the greatest factor is that the car handles better and you may be driving harder for greater enjoyment."

Default Size and reason I bought

They are the exact same size. I bought them because they were on sale, and they were a good deal. If not on sale, I would have gone back with the Bridgestones. I loved those tires.

If they're the exact same size (overall height AND width) then there should not be a significant MPG change, even if they are hi-po tires.
